NEWS: WA initiates new drugs laws to protect kids

^ Good to see the opposition is trying to do their job (sort of). It's a shame that "not wanting to seem soft on drugs" is the main motivating factor for both sides rather than anything to do with effective policy based on research or evidence of any kind. I bet they wouldnt repeal the laws even if they got into power at the next election. Imagine the headlines...8)

I almost want to say that to be fair, given the general public there is probably no other choice for the parties other then to look 'hard on crime'... but then again, the public attitude is largely a result of government policies dating back to generations ago and continued today.

"If the children are exposed to dangerous chemicals and safety hazards as a result of the cultivation or are injured by the cultivation, the new provisions could be applied," a spokeswoman from Mr Johnson's office said.

This would lead me to think that the policy is going to be that there has to be some form of obvious negligence on the part of the parents in protecting their children; for example, not securing a grow room so that the children cannot access it and things along those lines. In reality having children in the same house will probably qualify the parents for these charges and a jury is most likely going to convict them.
