NEWS: Reveller caught with 750 ecstasy pills at Winter Sound System

L3inad man, seriously like I don't recall ever buying pills off an actual pill dealer that wouldn't have that many pills available. I know its "who you know" but I have had a large number of pill sources over the years, a lot of them weren't any older than this kid. Obviously they are quite involved in criminal activity, but I do draw a distinction between being able to obtain not even 1000 biccies and being heavily involved in organised crime.

I don't see why him being a mule suggests affiliation with organised crime, for all anyone knows he might not even of had prior relationship with whoever he smuggled them for (assuming thats what he was doing). Even if he did know someone personally who's pills they were, I would hardly describe being mates with a pill dealer and stupidly being tempted to try this for a wad of cash as "involved with organised crime."

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Our definitions of affiliation or involvement with organised crime are clearly quite different, I mean you could say a drug user was affiliated with organised crime because they buy the drugs off drug dealers but it is a bit of an exaggeration. I just don't think that amount of pills implies anything beyond what in the scheme of things is a boody small fish, most people I have known involved in the pill trade to any degree (dealing, not using) would consider 1000 pack pretty much a minimum purchase (note purchase as in for them to pick up, I don't mean they wouldn't sell less than 1000) back when I was popping. Maybe its different now...

Just thought I would also add, I guess it depends on your perception of "organised crime" how you take it. I mean sure it is easily arguable dealing any drugs is "organised crime" because it is a crime and it has been premeditated and organised. Personally when you say organised crime, it conjures up images of seedy fucks who will pretty much do anything to get ahead and have little to no morals. They engage in violence and intimidation to put out competition or those who otherwise oppose them. Someone who picks up pills and then sells them on for a profit generally doesn't fit the bill imho. On dictionary definition of the word you could probably pull me up, but what percentage of crime is not organised to any degree? I mean even if you plan to belt someone or walk into coles and steal a mars bar, it was still as premeditated and "organised" as selling E's is.

^ Yeah fair enough actually. But then again I am a wee bit stoned and picking holes in your arguement seems like to much effort right now =P

I will say though, if I've learnt anything from your post's is that you were pill popper and a half and probably had far better contacts then your average joe ;)

Even still, you make a fair point.

750 does not make you conected in the slightest. This is a drop in the ocean, even for an 18yr these days (sadly) And as for him being involved in organised crime, it could have been as simple as geting 750 on TIC, having a few mates agree to push inside and giving back ones he didn't sell and spliting profits.. doesn't mean he was some major player. Shit like this goes on all the time at nightclubs.

750 doesn't seem like an insane amount compared to some of the other busts we read about. My dealer probably sometimes gets that amount, or used to when pills were good, and he is not big time at all, he just knows where the the big fish are. :)

I wonder how he tried to do it... probably just in his bag or something, I have this image in my mind of him with a giant bulge in his pants and the cops just looking at him, him looking back and saying -

"Oh, that? That's just my package. Yep, God delivered it, I signed for it, the world keeps on turning."

Or do I watch too much Family Guy?

^ In Vic, until you're 21 you get sent to a Youth Detention Center as opposed to a Jail or Correction facility.

And that kid, whatever the circumstances, stupid.

I'm serious there is 18-21 year old category, it's still youth a step after juvenille but a step behind adult. It's young adult.

Most of the time he will end up in youth training centre and some of the time big boys.

Victoria has Dual Track system in which offenders under the age of 21 can be sentenced to Youth Training Centre, the Judge always' try's to give kids under the age of 21 a suitability for YTC.

When the drug war will end so we no longer need to see in the news yet another story about how "well" the police force is doing at controlling crime that prohibition itself creates?

Feel sorry for the guy. Just trying to supply a demand and his life is basically wrecked. Usually big time dealers like that split their stashes amongst a bunch of ppl so each stash is easier to hide and allows greater mobility to sell etc. Either that or they hide it somwhre fw days before or sneak it in with the djs or something. Sounds like the guy was a bit rookie. Maybe he got given the pills up front kind of like a loan to pay back

Unless the law has changed in the past couple of years, in Qld, an offender can be treated as an adult (charged etc) at age 17. It's all at the discretion of the police officer.

In New South Wales a juvenline (under the age of 18 ) is sent to a Youth Detention Center - or something along those lines.

If the prosecutor has reason to believe the juvenile is a danger to others (is very physically large) they can request the juvenile be sent to an adult correction facilty.

Those are the laws for New South Wales as of 2009.

in america you can be tried as an adult depending on the severity of your crimes. one of my mates growing up got sent to real deal jail at 16, for burning down a train station.

lucky with live under an incredibly lax system....

Your friend burnt down a train station?

I call psycho!

But don't confuse Australian laws with American laws, if you fit the age bracet you will be trialled as such.

I cannot speak for other states but in WA this "kid" would be dealt with in the adult District Court and he would be going to prison, no ifs, buts or maybes. A sentence of probably up to 2-3 years following a guilty plea would be imposed, despite his age and no doubt clean record. However, the circumstances of why he had them and what his intention was would be particularly relevant. I suspect he was also carrying them in there for someone else, which would be a lesser evil in the eyes of the court than if he intended to sell them and pocket the profits.

I also seriously doubt they are MDXX.
