Injected adrenaline - new Aussie party drug
July 19, 2007 11:18am

DRUG users in the desert town of Alice Springs have started injecting illegal adrenaline, prompting police to warn "the new speed" could have fatal consequences.

The drug, normally used by medics to treat people suffering extreme asthma attacks or allergic reactions, is being sold on the streets in glass containers with blue stoppers.

Detective Acting Superintendent Michael Murphy called it a "new health threat'' and has warned the public to be wary of the new party drug.

"This new recreational drug has the potential to cause death in some people,'' Detective Murphy said.

"Adrenaline is usually only used in cases of extreme emergency for such things as severe allergic reactions or during acute asthma attacks for breathing difficulties.

"Used outside these circumstances, it has proved fatal in the past and the community should be warned of the potentially fatal consequences,'' he said.

Other symptoms of adrenaline overdose include, massive haemorrhage into the brain, weakness, dizziness, convulsions, nausea and vomiting, abnormal heartbeat or palpitations, visual distortion and major anxiety.

I found one of these at work in the lost property and I always wondered if people would take it for fun and now I know! Still doesn't tempt me to try it.

Really? Then why the fuck would anyone want to inject adrenaline? It is one of the MOST unpleasant sensations imaginable - no euphoria, just a strong sudden shock and uncomfortable sensation. Adrenaline has little to no recreational value, and if it's commonly practised anywhere - including Alice - I'll eat my hat.

This is a beat-up plain and simple - probably had one reported case and someone decided to make an article of it.

Petrol or Adrenaline? Which would you prefer?

My bf thinks there'd be no point taking Adrenaline unless you wanted to know what a heart attack felt like, lol.

They feel rather psychedelic in a psychotic way and kind of interesting. Pretty damn dangerous and unpleasurable though.

A friend of mine banged some a few weeks back and said it felt like he had been scared shitless or just jumped out of a plane...

He said all he felt other than that was his heart rate go through the roof and his viens felt like they were burning (i notice this when natural adrenaline kicks in)

He said it was akin to seeing a ghost and deffinately NOT a worthy high!

I couldn't get much more out of him as i was pissing myself laughing at the thought of someone even wanting to try it!

Alice is a very boring town so maybe it really is a big thing there lol

You never know
