An 18-year-old girl has died in Stockholm after overdosing on mephedrone, a drug that until now has been freely available for purchase on the internet.

After the girl's death at Karolinska University Hospital on Sunday afternoon, Swedish authorities took immediate steps to ban the drug, with the handling of mephedrone classified as a criminal offence as of Monday, December 15th.

The 18-year-old and some friends took the substance in combination with cannabis on Friday night. An ambulance was soon called to Bandhagen in south Stockholm after the girl went into convulsions and turned blue in the face, Svenska Dagbladet reports.

The dangerous stimulant can attack vital organs and is often likened to a cross between cocaine and ecstasy. As it smells of seafood, the substance is referred to by users in Sweden as 'krabba' (crab).

This is not good ...

people have also died from the mcpp pills as well but other factors involved , mdxx mixed with mcpp is highly toxic from what Ive been reading.

Atleast they banned the stuff instantly ...



It smells like seafood ? wtf ?

I wouldn't ingest that ...

Why are neo-doves mentioned here?

Not much 4-MMC in the current version of neo-dove if any...... The last death blamed on 4-MMC was actually PMA

In comparison panadol is more dangerous.

4-Methylmethcathinone (Mephedrone, 4-MMC

The drug was used in early products by the legal high company Neorganics[2], but the range was discontinued in January 2008 after the government of Israel, where the company is based, made 4-Methylmethcathinone illegal. The chemical can still be purchased from some online stores but is generally considered a legal 'grey area', as it is an analogue of class-A controlled substance methcathinone, and as such not a substance frequently found in legal drugs. It has been reported to be sold on the illicit market as a controlled substance analogue, but little is known about its pharmacology or toxicology as yet.[2] 4-Methylmethcathinone has recently been reported as having been sold as "ecstasy" in the Australian city of Cairns, along with ethylcathinone.[3][4][5] By the end of 2008 4-methylmethcathinone had become quite popular in Sweden, Finland, and the UK; with a proliferation of online vendors typically selling 1 gram of 4-methylmethcathinone between €15-€20.

On May 20, 2008 an 18-year-old Danish male who had consumed a unknown substance experienced convulsions, and went into a week long coma before passing away. Authorities originally speculated methamphetamine, but later believed it to be 4-methylmethcathinone. Toxicology reports however remain inconclusive on the cause of death.

On December 14, 2008 an 18-year-old Swedish woman died in Stockholm after overdosing on mephedrone in combination with cannabis.

I have had the exact symptoms i turned grey, green, curled up, twisted and seizured serval times.
shouldn't try to snort 3+grams at once
 
Interesting to see the Wikipedia entry updated, most of that wasn't there last time I looked.

Ethylcathinone and 4-Methylmethcathinone, also known as 4-MTA, could cause hypothermia and organ failure, he said.

Sen-Sgt Dowie said 4-MTA was similar to a drug known as PMA but it was much more dangerous.

This is from the story in cairns, 4-MTA might be similar to PMA but its not 4-MMC as reported.

Actually, I had confirmation from a senior academic that after a Qld forensic chemist saw an earlier post of mine which criticised reports claiming the substance in that story was 4-MTA, she analyzed the substance from that Cairns police seizure.

I was personally informed the substance was indeed 4-MMC. The reports of 4-MTA were false and just another example of sensationalist journalism.

It would seem that the problems with meaow (4mmc) are coming from people snorting huge ammounts such as this .... Not a very wise move.
I really dont get the deal with snorting this stuff, it works much better if you bomb it and dosent come with the associated risks

Yet we have this one http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showpost.php?p=6709227&postcount=69 saying they are definatley subcola, which is tenuate (diethylpropion) They are probably all safer than an untested E tab either way. 200mg of 4-MMC feels alot smoother on the system on the way down than Es

I'm sorry I didn't explain myself very well. No one is denying ethylcathinone was also found in the caps, only that the reported 4-MTA was in fact 4-MMC.

Doron bashing? I've nothing agaisnt the guy personally, but I have issues with any company that describes their products (re original neorg products) as safe and legal, when they most certainly are not. They're not the only company doing it, and I intend to take up this subject with local suppliers of products that are promoted through false advertising or promotion, and with any salesperson who indicates these products are safe for everyone...
 
well, i think the only way to use the word "safe" when we are talking about drugs is in comparison to other drugs. up untill about 8 months ago, i had consumed hundreds of the original neo doves. I can't say about long term issues, but If i had binged on alcohol, mdma, meth/amph, or any similar drugs,( which i have for a couple days) for the same amount of time as i did the doves......shudder to think. nothing is safe.

never thought ethyl cath was in neo's
I used to use the range to extremes are am always curious what chemicals are dangerous or what part of these cause damage. I have not used in fuck nearly a year....maybe more. not sure about those new range.
