NEWS: Coalition pledges bong ban

Gateway drug theory is a load of crap. Who drank alcohol before smoking weed?...

I know i did , i used to nag the old boy for a sip of his beer when i was a kid and i personally cant stand weed and have done quite a few different drugs.

Nobody has ever died directly from cannabis use. Alcohol can cause death by alcohol poisoning, asphyxiation, cardiomyopathy, and cardiac infarct (heart attack).

I'm sure there have been many cases of smoking caused deaths that cannot be proven directly to cannabis.

%)
Impairment produced by alcohol increases the risks of accidents, and engagement in dangerous behaviour (particularly drink driving). It remains to be seen whether cannabis produces similar increases.

Cannabis does cause impairment, whether we like it or not. However I think most heavy weed users forget what weed was once like and most heavy weed users can function better on a day to day basis than alcoholics.

%)
The abrupt cessation of alcohol use in very heavy drinkers causes a well-known withdrawal effect that can kill if untreated. It is unclear whether any degree of withdrawal syndrome occurs after cessation of heavy cannabis use.

Give me 24 hours and I could prove it.

I hate to be attacking you as I am a heavy daily smoker and agree that weed is a better choice and should be legal but we need to remember that weed is still dangerous, especially to a developing brain.

....... the only people at danger from stoners are pizza's and doritos bags.

** Shoves a dorito in his mouth

Whether or not cannabis is more harmful than alcohol depends a lot on dosage and frequency of use. Have 2-4 standard drinks a day and you're likely to benefit from the alcohol - I know there have been studies to indicate the contrary, but most schools of thought still regard a small amount of ethanol/day as being beneficial to most people's health. Of course, this doesn't take into account medical predispositions.

Same could be said of the antitumour properties of CBN (a cannabinoid) however, smoke anything and you dramatically increase your chances of developing COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) which leads to emphysema. So, even the one joint a day smoker substantially increases his/her chance of developing this condition, particularly if they're over 50.

In the above two examples, neither drug is probably too much more harmful than the other, but increase dosages significantly and both present additional problems. Which one is worse? Well, you can recover from sclerosis if you stop drinking before it advances too far (the liver can repair itself and regrow even if 3/5s of it are surgically removed). But once COPD is present, even if the person never smokes again, the damage is done and cannot be reversed, although aerobic exercise can delay the onset of emphysema. If the person has smoked for years, lung efficiency will never recover to what it would have been had the person never smoked.

So, regardless of how many articles are presented to show one side of the argument, there will likely be an equal number showing the opposite. In a sense it's like comparing apples to oranges.

Just eat the weed problem solved......;)

Here in New York water pipes are illegal, so the head shops remove the bowl (which is sold separately), insert a wick into the downstem, and sell them as 'oil lamps' :\

haha...

FACT: Alcohol kills more people per year than all other drugs combined... Times one thousand.

Nobody has ever died directly from cannabis use. Alcohol can cause death by alcohol poisoning, asphyxiation, cardiomyopathy, and cardiac infarct (heart attack).

Impairment produced by alcohol increases the risks of accidents, and engagement in dangerous behaviour (particularly drink driving). It remains to be seen whether cannabis produces similar increases.

There is strong evidence that high doses of alcohol taken during pregnancy can cause foetal alcohol syndrome. There is weak evidence that cannabis can cause similar adverse effects.

The abrupt cessation of alcohol use in very heavy drinkers causes a well-known withdrawal effect that can kill if untreated. It is unclear whether any degree of withdrawal syndrome occurs after cessation of heavy cannabis use.

There is strong evidence that heavy alcohol consumption can cause psychotic behaviour. There is suggestive evidence that cannabis may produce psychosis in people with a predisposition to mental illness.

There is good evidence that alcohol can (indirectly) cause brain injury. With long-term heavy drinking, severe irreversible cognitive impairment can occur. Long-term cannabis use does not produce damage of comparable severity.
The late comedian Bill Hicks explains why marijuana is better than beer. Listen

Well done.

PsiloSubNaut - You are my hero =D

'Victorians can't trust Mr Biellieu as he talks shite'

fixed.

seriously, where is this guy gettin his info from, harry anslinger?

you aussies need to step your game the fuck back up.
wtf happened to the australia whose fine citizens would kidnap, strip this guy and chase him
through the outback in a jeep, all the while shooting at his feet?

cmon guys, step yer game up!

Just a thought, but nothing will ever change as long as you (yes, I'm looking at YOU) don't get politically active. There's more to democracy than voting every four years and unless we get active then we'll get steamrolled on this shit. Same with the internet filter. I don't know how many aussie BL'ers there are but if we pulled together as a bloc, and implimneted some of the stratgies outlined in the internet filter then we might actually get there. Until then we are sitting ducks whose opinion mean exactly 0/10ths of fuck all.

Stop being apathetic and whinging on the internet and get active goddamn it :X

Heck yes make your vote count people! A gov only has as much power as it's people will give it. Do your part!

I dont think I ever need to purchase a new piece of glass, unless of course I drop it or something. (Lets never hope that happens). So this really doesn't affect me.

its still good to stop the damn regulation though.

the same with the internet censorship.

"oh but i only use it for blah blah etc"

so what? itll come back n bite you in the ass if you dont do anything and let the problem grow.

I am politically active when it comes to this countries stupid drug laws.

I can post up all the info you want in relation to alcohol being a worse drug than cannabis.

PLUR :)
Nice :) Posting such distinct statements without any references so to speak only creates misinformation a lot of the time.
