The ANZ Bank says it is "completely shocked" by a police investigation into an alleged drug trafficking network operating out of its Melbourne offices.

Australian Federal Police have launched a probe into the alleged narcotics syndicate running out of the bank’s debt collection department.

Fourteen staff who worked in the bank’s former city offices in Collins Street, and later when the department moved to Dorcas Street in South Melbourne, have reportedly been linked to the alleged syndicate.

ANZ spokesman Stephen Ries said a number of staff linked to the investigation had left the bank "some time ago", but he would not elaborate on why they had left, or if they had been sacked.

"We have been completely shocked by this matter and everyone at ANZ is incredibly disappointed at the matters the police are looking into," he said.

"We have zero tolerance on these matters and none of the staff linked to this investigation are with ANZ any longer.

"We’re treating this matter very seriously and have been doing everything we can do to assist the police but because it’s now in the hands of the police and the courts we’re unfortunately limited as to what we can say."

Mr Ries said he could not comment on allegations that the bank’s internal email system had been used to deal drugs, and that the staff had left the bank over allegations of inappropriate use of the email system.

Search warrants are believed to have been issued on ANZ offices and the homes of staff members linked to the investigation, and computer records seized.

When contacted about the drugs probe, an Australian Federal Police spokeswoman said a 30-year-old man had been arrested for allegedly importing the drug 4-MMC, commonly known as meow meow.

However, she could not confirm whether the man was linked to the ANZ Bank

Victoria Police is not involved in the investigation.

Ohh dear. Lol

Nope, it's another of those names like 'liquid ecstasy' that the media invented just because it sounds cool

That's the difference between the haves and the have nots. While the Macquarie Bankers have their own coke connects while ANZ debts has to import shit RC's. :)

Bankers doing something thats wrong and against the law? Surely not ;)

Hahaha fuck it's funny when they call it meow meow. But seriously does this come as a surprise to anyone? Just cause they work for a bank doesn't mean they won't use drugs. I heard about this on the radio and apparantly the bank was shocked because they pride themselves on integrity? INTEGRITY? Pppfffttt yeah right!

HAAHA MUCH LOLS had over this =D=D

I bet Mac Bank would turn a blind eye to coke use by its staff. Helps make those 21 hour work days bearable. Haha. More blow = more profit and of course Profit = God at the holy dollar.

It's a little off topic but still a real interest of how the bank and monatary system works. Head to you tube and looke up zeigeist 2. It may very well be propaganda but at the same time it's quite scary to think that it is the way it all works.

I was actually doing work in that Collins street building a little while back, if only I had of known! Just more proof of how deep and inevidable drugs are within society. Ka-ching

^I think I'd laugh when offered something that sounds as ridiculous as Meow Meow.

Just for once, I would love to see an honest statement. Instead of 'completely shocked' I'd have preferred to see something along the lines of "not again".
