The actions of the senior constable have possibly compromised secret probes into some of Victoria's most prolific and dangerous criminals.

The Herald Sun has been told all current cases involving undercover Victoria Police, and many previous investigations, have had to be reviewed as a result of possible security breaches.

While the Ethical Standards Department probe has found no evidence the undercover officer has been selling secrets to criminals to fund an expensive heroin habit, that scenario can't be ruled out.

The Herald Sun has been told the force's elite Intel and Covert Support department has been rocked by news one of their own may have betrayed them.

Corruption investigators from ESD raided the undercover agent and another police officer in August and arrested both of them.

Since then, the force has been working frantically to try to work out if any investigations have been compromised.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman today confirmed two senior constables had been suspended from duty pending the outcome of an ESD investigation into drug and dishonesty offences.

"Given the ongoing nature of the investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further,'' she said.

No charges have been laid yet against the undercover officer. The other officer resigned today.

The Herald Sun has been told there is no evidence the undercover operative was using or buying drugs while on duty.

Every case the undercover officer has been involved with has been reviewed and assessed, with a particular emphasis on drug cases, and no evidence has been found of any investigations being compromised.

But criminals would have been prepared to pay big money for access to the undercover agent's intimate knowledge of undercover police procedures and methodologies.

The officer would also have known which individual criminals and gangs were being worked on and it is not possible to be certain if any of them were alerted they were targets.

The Office of Police Integrity is aware of the case and its widespread ramifications and is overseeing the ESD probe
