NEWS: 30-1-10 Ectasy tablets kills more Australians

(It's also been found that higher temps increase the neurological damage in rats - check circa 2001 work by Mendelson, Uni of California.

When speaking with someone from the heart foundation the other day, I was informed more young people are being diagnosed with cardio-vascular problems today than ever before. Unfortunately some people don't find this out until it's too late. Because the likelihood of use among younger people, this then is possibly the highest risk group in regards to MDMA, so don't think this is heart stuff is limited to just us oldies.

To the that first part I'm sure any user can agree with this, after using MDMA in low temp environments and than in hotter ones like BDO, you can feel the damage more, well I always do.

And I believe being an Australian male means you have a 50% chance of encountering heart problems during your life.

Plus you can't say

Many people have died from its use (yes I'm talking about pure MDMA)

Because nobody knows whether anybody actually HAD pure MDMA since it's illegal.

As I mentioned earlier, forensic toxicology is a science that specializes in finding out how a person died. If the report reads something like cause of death due to MDMA, no other drugs present then that's what killed the person. Hyponatremia has definitely killed people and drinking too much water while on MDMA in an attempt to cool down can certainly cause the condition - again autopsy showed in several of these cases MDMA was the only drug consumed. Check out the stories of Leah Betts, Anna Woods etc. You can argue it's the water that killed, but take away the MDMA and the person wouldn't have felt the urge to drink that much.

A clinical setting can be very different to a recreational one. Heart rate BP etc would be monitored and precautions taken against this type of thing occurring.

I'd just like to reiterate this (myself being relatively young, 27, but with minor heart issues already detected). I implore anyone considering taking large doses of mdma, speed, coke, or especially mephedrone to get your heart checked out at some stage. It's easy to go to a GP, say you have a family history of heart problems and request a referral to get an ECG. If you're a student or have a health care card it should be almost free.

life...is risky...........being born is risky.........

compared to the amount of pills, regardless of purity, that have been gobbled in those same years, 8 deaths in incredibly negligible

i say this with the utmost respect and reverence for those poor souls, thier families and friends

i couldnt begin to imagine the numbers of pills that have been consummed

baths and stairs have killed far more people in that time......

"now uh, son, make sure you dont be walking up the stairs , and boy, you better not go anywere that bath up there"

sons girlfriend wispers in his ear with "did your dad say he got a bath,..upstairs?....when does he go to the bowlo/"

Yeah i think alcohol is one of the worst drugs out. Where im from theres a fight every night in the bar. I think pot should be legal without a doubt and i dont even like to smoke weed. I know i would have much rather had a pot head then a alcoholic for a dad, I prolly wouldnt have had to beat his ass for my mom so many times. Alcohol can really change people. I dont know about legalizing MDMA though, I think people would start mixing it with all kinds of other shit, Like alcohol... I took an E pill once and drank about 9 beers and thought i was superman, Needless to say i got jumped by like 6 dudes in the driveway of a house party. They ripped the cartilage in my ear and i didnt even know it, I felt indestructable, No pain at all. I wouldnt say i won the fight but those guys def didnt expect for me to walk away... I couldnt imagine if someone got behind the wheel like that, Disaster...

We are talking about legalizing it here for medicinal uses.

What did you do to provoke the jumping?

I have never been in a fight on any substance and am highly unlikely too. More likely to sober than on anything. Blame the user, not the substance.

I've never had anywish to be in a fight on MDMA, but I sure did feel invincible.
Just wanted to say about the people dying of pure MDMA isn't it also true that whilst extremely rare some people have died from seretonin syndrome from consuming too much MDMA? I think I remember reading that somewhere lol.

I know i'm highly unlikely to provoke or allow any kind of fight if high.

I reckon on mdma, the idea of a fight just makes you feel all ick like you're going to snuff it, dear lads... & I'd rather just lick his shoe and get on with my night (sic. A Clockwork Orange)

is possible i think. More likely and far higher danger if mixing with other SRI's like DXM.
That is what a friend did; 2 bottles DX and 4 pills and oh yes did he spend a week in bed eating cereal.

and the whole point of this site is to educate people so that they can minimise risks....

Thankyou belarki you hit the nail on the head. Further to the point, of course everyday activities in life have risks, that's not the issue discussed here at all. Many of these everyday risks are unavoidable, such as baths, stairs and cars.

What this is about is reducing the risk associated with placing oneself in the way of unnecessary harm, as one does when one consumes recreational drugs.
