Newby here, Wisdom tooth removal at Guys Hospital.

Hi All

I don't know what thread to put this under as I am new here, but saw info about people
saying about had their wisdoms out so wanted to ask some advice questions etc.

situation: Saw a new dentist last week, and need a wisdom tooth out, its bottom left one, he has referred-me to Guys hospital to have it done, as he said would be a tricky procedures the tooth is under the gum still right next to my other tooth as well. He said it will mean
having my gum cut open and stitched. what a grand life isn't it! More pain, oh well!

To explain, First had out years ago I was awake thru all and I was stuck in dentist chair hour and half, when I came out I collapsed. After that I became a Nervous Patient. He had
to take it out in pieces and cut my gum open and all he gave was a jab in the gum, worst
experience ever. I had migraines for 2wks after this as well and felt faint all the time.

The following time I requested to be put under, so they put IV in my hand and I was out
within 7 secs, this was great as when I came round I felt nothing. Just relaxed and out of it really. and even less pain aswell.

I have never had it done at Guys hospital so have some questions to those who had this done already.

1. How long will it be before I receive my first appointment?
2. How long there after for the 2nd appointment?
3. Can I request to be put under? because I am a nervous patient.

I dont know that I could go thru with it if they refused to put me under.

What is the entire procedure for this?
They mention a day case but I assume you dont have to stay in hospital over night?

Info: I only saw the dentist last week and he said he would sent the letter off for referral
for me. Its not agonising pain but it does hurt at times, but not constantly.

Please anyone give me some info here.

Does this have a wrap around feature as when I type I had to keep putting enter
other wise my words are split or adjoined etc.

but I don't know why you've posted this in our forum. our mission is to give harm reduction advice to people who take drugs, so dentistry questions are somewhat out of our sphere of expertise.

why don't you use www.google.co.uk to find a more appropriate source of advice?

Yeah I've been put under at Guys to have wisdom teeth removed before. They should do it if you request it but I don't know what drugs they used but they make you feel awful when you wake up for hours on end. I can't answer your other questions though. I never want to be put under again if I can help it because of the horror stories I've heard about what they get up to when you're asleep, especially if you're a woman. It's something to consider. edit: maybe that's silly.

Welcome! you may request to be put under, due to my tolerance to drugs, the dentist said it took an immense amount of laughing gas to knock me out! hah! I was given 5mg dones, so I got a bunch of Roxies and had a fun week you may bleed a lot though, it sucks.

Hi, ok I made a mistake, i did a search for wisdom teeth and found a site and must have some how got yours by error and posted it here instead of other, I am a tiswas at the moment.

thanks for your reply, I have been put under before actually years ago and I was fine actually, I did see a pink teddy bear though, but had no pain, I think it makes some sick, but it didnt me, I just came home and went to sleep for a while, thanks for answer.
