Newbie to GHB - basic questions

Hi all - I'm very experienced with MDMA and street E; and going back several years I've also had moderate experience with mid-range doses of psychedelics such as LSD and mushrooms. This past weekend toward the end of an MDMA high, I finally decided to cautiously try GHB. The effects were subtle but pronounced, and I have some curiosity and a few questions.

I've read up on GHB at Erowid, so I'm aware of the very narrow dose curve between what can be a stellar time and the nastiness of too much. I feel well prepared for GHB in the sense of what the expected effects are and dosages, so my basic questions are more about what warnings, caution or advice can people give me about frequency of use, negative after effects, addictive potential, etc?

Is this a substance that can be used monthly or twice monthly without tolerance, loss of novelty and increasing negative after effects? Are there negative after effects? Is it like MDMA where it's best to do all you're going to do at one time, or can a person dose repeatedly throughout one session. If so, is there a limit at which you get negative after effects? Is there a hang over? If so, what is it like?

I understand that alcohol is a complete no-no to mix with GHB. Aside from alcohol, MDMA and street E, the only other drug I use is marijuana (infrequently). Is it safe and/or fun to use with weed?

Thanks guys!

GBL Megathread 4: End of an Era? (and the three previous incarnations)

The GHB/GBL Addiction & Withdrawal Thread

GBL and GHB are interchangeable - they are essentially the same thing as GBL is converted to GHB within seconds of ingesting it. To work out quantities (as most people are talking about GBL) 1ml of GBL = 1.6g of GHB.

It's highly addictive with pretty major withdrawals so best to avoid heavy use. Easier said than done... It can be used quite safely even on a daily basis but the magic will be lost and you're taking it to stay on a level rather than get high. Keep it to weekends and try to take the occasional weekend off and you should be fine. Don't mix with other CNS depressants like booze, benzos and opiates (especially opiates which G potentiates to scary levels). Mixes beautifully with stims but watch how much you take as the stim can mask the depressant effects of G. Weed is no problem and also mixes well. Have fun :)

Thanks for the links and the info. This is what I was looking for. Cheers.

GHB/GBL and no 1 4 BDO are my favorite drugs..they give you energy, make music sound wonderful, make me empathetic towards others, kills anxiety, makes me social and no hangovers...i have taken tons of GHB over the years and never had a problem with addiction..i would actually say that of the hundreds of people i know that used to regularly take ghb, only 1-2 of them developed an addiction so i personally dont think it is that addictive...great drug when used responsibly...

There are plenty of people in the G Addiction thread above who would dispute it being non-addictive. GABA agonists are addictive - can't think of one that isn't. That's not to say use = addiction, but excessive use certainly does. In the UK GBL was legal until recently and you could have it delivered to your door within 24 hours of ordering. This led people to dose around the clock cos it was so cheap, legal, easy to acquire, and with no obvious downsides (no real comedown or tolerance issues). Unsurprisingly, many got addicted and the withdrawal is up there with booze and benzos for nastiness.

Ghb is Very addicting. It's something you use once a week, then around the clock.

You don't ever redose with ghb. You do use a proper doser(oral rig), if it goes by tsp? then its like a half tsp. But you may want to do less because it is probably going to come on strong since its your first time and you don't wanna get sick on this shit fool.

w/d symptoms are worse than alcohol, but this is like and everyday month use for it to be that bad.

you never know how potent your love juice is either. so if you fall asleep its hard telling if you need to go to the hospital. Usually if you puke things have gone wrong if shit spins and you cant move. I'll say that much. Always chill with someone mature and that would help you always and that cares.

^^all im saying is very rarely have I seen people get addicted to it...and i have known alot of people that have taken it..i have read the horror stories but just havernt seen much of it in real life..not saying it doesnt happen but it seems overstated..

GB(L in my case) is one of those drugs that I cannot not use if I have any. I have used it 24/7 almost constantly for the last coupla years. If I have a bottle it doesn't feel like I get any say in the matter. I wouldn't go out and rob a granny for my next dose if I run out but I'm not a happy bunny for a while when I do. I've somehow avoided any major withdrawals so far but that seems to be very unusual.

My pet (totally without evidence beyond personal obserations) theory for that escape is that I never use it to sleep. It may be pure coincidence but those who take KO doses at night seem to have the worst trouble with it. Pure conjecture on my part but I would advise anybody to avoid KO doses and put up with the rebound insomnia instead.

I think it's best to warn anybody who is new to a drug with potential for serious addiction issues and dangerous withdrawals knows that it's a risk. How much concern for that potential risk they have is their business. There are plenty of other reasons to avoid heavy use of G - the fact it rapidly stops being any fun is as good as any - but addiction and withdrawal are excellent reasons to be cautious.

There's no way of knowing that would be a good dose. GHB is a salt - not a liquid - that can be made up to any concentration when diluted. Unless you have it in powder/crystal form (or have GBL) you cannot know the dose you are taking and have to trust what you are told. This is one reason I would only use GHB I had made from GBL myself.

^^see i never took GHB to sleep..in fact i think its a shitty sleep aid..its actualy harder for me to fall asleep on ghb than it is tyleonl pms for some reason...it actually causes me to miss out on sleep...

also, ghb causes one to FEEL leaner..literally it makes you feel thinner or leaner, more vascular..i rarely hear this mentioned but it happens every time i use it...no other drug, amphetamines to opiates have made me feel like this..

when it comes to ghb addiction i just couldnt picture myself taking it before work or during work...it isnt that functional a drug imo...i think its a great high but i wouldnt desire to feel like that 24 7...opiates were my problem drug..

Opiates were also my problem drug... there are definite similarities and when you take G heavily and daily you can function just fine on it. There is some speculation that G might have an effect on opioid receptors but don't think a direct link has been demonstrated. Guess it's like anything - will catch some folk easier than others :\

^^is it even possible to get hooked on GHb if you only took it once a day??i have read the addiction reports and they always start out with something like 'i would dose in the morning and then at night and within months i was addicted'...i have talked to others that have dosed once a day for 5-6 weeks and noticed no withdrawals...i guess it is like opiates, some can handle them but others cant...

Not from once a day use, I'd say, although "the magic" will probably rapidly fade even at that level. But many find the temptation to redose overwhelming - especially if they happen to have a litre of GBL lying around which isn't exactly uncommon for GBL users. It's not a matter of guaranteed addiction but it is most definitely a risk if you have easy access to largish amounts :\

*doses another 2ml*

where do you live?Im just talking in general. GHB/GBL are addicting as fuck , I've only seen 1 person not go to crazy on it. GHB/GBL always comes in a liquid, one slimey the other not. what are you talking about.

shambles-well what do ya know my dose is 2 ml as well :)

ghb absolutely kills anhedonia for reasons unknown to me...amphetamines, alcohol and benzos actually worsen my anhedonia but ghb eliminates it...

Well, GHB/GBL is a euphoriant so you'd hope that it would kill anhedonia ;)

B&O: I live in the UK and am specifically talking about GBL - but GHB and GBL are interchangeable (aside from dosage) as GBL is converted to GHB in vivo within (less than 10) seconds of ingesting from memory. GHB is a powdery/crystalline salt that is diluted to make up "slimy" GHB liquid. GBL is a liquid solvent that is very easily converted to GHB either chemically or just by drinking it.

Also, time for (yet) another 2ml. Addiction is a bitch but at least it's cheap as fuck :\

As I said, I've used it virtually daily - up to 50ml a day, in my case, which is certainly not recommended - for over two years with no problem beyond habituation. I do seem to miss out on the withdrawals though which the vast majority don't and they are definitely not to be sniffed at. Even though you have the sniffles.

I never had any problem with GBL. Had up to 500ml, dosed once or twice a day, some days didn't dose it, and when it was finished it was finished. I don't crave it whatsoever, don't even think about it or the lack of it.
