As a new smoker is it common to get tightness in the throat (feels like it's closing up kinda) after taking a few hits from a pipe? Having smoked a joint before (think there was a slight amount of tobacco mixed in with it) and being 100% fine I'm not sure what is causing it? Is it dangerous? Is it because I'm using a pipe?

Current method of use:
1) Pick off small amount of herb to smoke
2) Cover carb hole, light and inhale from empty lungs keeping hole covered
3) Near end of full breath, release the carb hole and continue to inhale
4) Once breath is full, hold in for 3 seconds or more then release

Perhaps it's something to do with my method, leaving it in too long maybe (I think with the joint I just inhaled to lungs then exhaled without holding it in for more than a second)?

Not sure, but would like to know it's not something to worry about and is normal etc.

People not accustomed to any kind of smoking methods are likely to experience some kind of irritability when they inhale smoke.

Does the tightness come after coughing? If not, does it make you want to cough? Are you able to breathe normally or is the feeling hindering your ability to breathe?

Honestly, I would chalk it up to having virgin lungs and call it a day, but if it's messing with your ability to breathe normally then you might have an allergy issue. I really think your throat/lungs are just sensitive to smoke, though, and that's the case with most people when they start smoking anything.

Yep, sounds just bout right is you ask me too!

Smoking makes people cough which will always leave you sore. Just keep a drink around when getting high and enjoy !
