Hi everyone! I've been "stalking" BL for a long time and finally decided to join as I see so much support and help here.

I'm needing some advice. I've been seeing a PM/Orthopedic Specialist for 2 years. I have had 5 back procedures and am needing to have the bottom half of my spine replaced with metal plates, Rods & bolts.

I go every 3 months for checkups. My Dr had me on Gabapentin, Zanaflex and Norco 10mg 4 x daily. When I went for my visit on Thursday, he stopped my pain meds and said that I shouldn't need them after my next round of shots. Well, my insurance, which is BCBS, has denied my procedure again and said I can't reapply for another for 6 months. When I called to ask for my pain meds back, he told me he would re-evaluate me in 3 months. Seriously?! WHY?!?!

I am drug tested every time I go in and I have to pay out of pocket for that because my insurance only pays for the testing twice a year. I've never abused my meds and have always been spot on when I have pill counts. I am literally in bed, SICK, because of this! Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I have severe Spinal Stenosis, Sciatica and numerous bulging and herniated discs. I'm really upset as I don't understand this. I've always had a great relationship with my Dr, but I don't agree with what he did. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

With the amount you were on that is borderline dangerous to cut you off cold turkey like that. I'm a bit shocked to be honest. I can only imagine how horrible your body feels right now. I think I'd be calling him back up and explaining the pain your in and that cutting you with no warning has caused you to become horribly Ill. Ask what your options are at least? If that yields nothing you could try a different doctor possibly? If you don't get anywhere with this there are a couple of ways to get rid of the sickness(wd) and even replace the pain killing effects of your Norco. Ive been there so i know the agony. Let me know, I'd be glad to help.

You need to go talk to him again. At least ask him for 3 months until next check up .

Ask him for the real reason. Does he think you are in danger of addiction? Then get him to suggest alternatives or other therapies.

If he is not helpful you might have to go back to a gp and start again.

I would appreciate any help you could give me! Tysm! I have called and was told by his nurse to try OTC meds for my pain until I go back in three months. I'm so upset! Chronic pain is nothing to play around with.

I also own my own business and can't even go to work right now as I am so sick. Should I ask for my medical records and find another dr? Starting over has flared up my panic and anxiety attacks that I had prior to seeing him over 2 years ago. ?

Pay him out of your own pocket for an appointment.

If he says no get a copy of your medical records and go elsewhere. If extreme pain and sick go to the er.

I'm more than willing to pay out of pocket for a doctor to see me, but I know they're gonna need my medical records. I owe $1500 as of now and pay $125 a week to pay that off, not including what I'm paying the Spine and Joint Hospital for my previous procedures. A copay costs me $120 every time I go. It's pissing me off paying him this much money only to have him stop an important medicine that helps me function. I know that some people don't understand the importance of what Chronic Pain Patients go thru and how it wrecks havoc on our bodies 24/7. It's mentally and emotionally draining. Prior to seeing him I was suicidal because of the constant pain and I definitely don't want to get to that place again. There should be regulations in place that protect us patients. Unfortunately there isn't.

Ahhhh...is it because you are owing a lot of money he wont help till you catch up?

Re negotiate and increase payments. Its shitty to cut you off as thats causing harm and against the hypocritical oath man

Hi! I'm the same Stormy just forgot my password and had to make a new account.
No, that isn't the reason. I've made payment plans which his office is great about doing. I'm always on time with my payments and always caught up.
I just don't know if I should find another doctor or wait it out til I go back in august and speak with him. I'm really pissed off and annoyed. I was so sick from the withdrawal of my medication that I ended up in the ER three times with severe dehydration and migraines caused by vomiting. I'm pretty sure I'm over the wds for the most part. It's been two weeks, but my pain has come back fiercely. I'm assuming because the meds numbed it and I no longer have that in my system.
Anyways, thanks for always answering! It's nice to know someone is here and cares. My depression and anxiety that I had prior to seeing PM has also come back.
