Hey finally decided to join blue light bc I've been trying to seek answers for years. I have been taking adderall for a few years now. I have the adderall xr 30mg. I would take it like five times a day. Built a huge tolerance for it. >_<... I had all the normal side effects like loss of appetite, cotton mouth, sweating, fast heart beat etc. I was also much tanner. Like a yellowish orange tint. I'm Asian 5 feet and 85-90lbs. Tinyy and still need to take a lot of addy to help me. My side effects started getting bad for the past year. I started getting dark circles underneath my eye, breath smelled bad, hot and cold flashes, weakness, dizziness, vomiting, and really blurry eye vision. All that I can sort of understand bc im taking a lot. The major concern I have is my skin! It is a completely different color. It looks like a spray tan, an ugly one. I started being self conscious and it's effecting my life. I try to hide from everyone when I take adderall. I just look super dark almost black after I take addy for a couple hours. I've been to the dermatologist, ER, and they said everything is normal. I have really good blood I guess? They would just tell me that it's the probably the adderall causing it. I'm like obviously! I wanted to know why and what's the reason for my skin to have really bad stains. My skin is also like rubbery or leathery. Super thick skin, and looks metallic. I checked my hormone levels and liver functioning tests. Everyone that I know get darker also but not noticeable and ridiculous like me. Ive stopped taking adderall for a year now. Just take it when I need to. Anyone else experiencing this?

if i had to make a guess at the colour i would say the liver. i dont exactly get what you mean by your skin being like rubber and leather, and then metallic too. :/

I don't understand this - you have stopped the medication but are still concerned about skin colour? I would suggest if you have not taken the medication for one year, your skin change(s) are nothing to do with the meds? I'm sorry if I am confused - are you actually still taking the meds - and if so, can you be more descriptive - you suggest 'stains' etc. - do you mean you get rashes? Or your entire skin changes, in a jaundiced effect?

Maybe the problem is your perception? Like maybe it's messing up your vision and it just looks weird to you? I know when I used to be on adderal if I went more than a day or so without sleep I'd have mild hallucinations, like I'd see things (mostly cats) out of the corner of my eye and sometimes colors would look a little off. Although if it happens after only a few hours then I guess that wouldnt really explain it... but if your dermatologist says you're fine then I wouldn't worry too much, maybe try out some body makeup or airbrushing?

I took it everyday then stopped taking it everyday. I take it like once a month now. Each time I take it, I get really bad side effects after like three hours.

I have an album on my phone to show how crazy my skin looks. I don't think I can post any pictures yet. People will notice it too. It's ruining my life. The days I do take them i hide at home for about a week. Also forgot to mention how i have skeleton looking feet and hands every time I take it. Creepy.

Taking a stab in the dark, possibly vascoconstriction due to blue type colouring. Also liver makes sense due to coloring.

It's your bodies way of telling you that it's being drained from the Adderall. I've taken it for ten years and that has never happened to me but I've seen other people change color from it. I've definitely had all the other side effects you mentioned but that would make me reconsider taking it at all anymore.

Ah I guess you're one of the lucky ones! I guess I'll have to find something else to help me. Adderall was the best for me though :( darn

I would think that the dosage would be to blame. IME, the higher the dosage, the more prominent the side effects. I would suggest, for health's sake, to talk to your doctor about a different medication. It sucks that it seems to work best... is that your last resort, or are there other options (that work similarly), that haven't been explored?

Everything I've read indicates Amphetamine especially when combined with cigarettes is HORRIBLE for your skin. This is no surprise. When I took it alll of my extremities would turn multi color including my genital region fucking creepy. Try something with less constriction like dexedrine or try to combat the constriction.

Hey power, I tried pretty much everything before I found something that worked for me. I did concerts and Ritalin and felt nothing. Made me mellow and numb to everything. Dextroampethanine worked but I'm pretty sure it caused the same side effects.

I agree that it is most likely not related.

You should check out the adverse reactions listed in the Adderall XR Guide. There really isn't much matching the reaction (or more likely, seperate problem) you describe. The only skin problems that rarely occur are hair loss, Stevens-Johnson's Syndrome, and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis. All of those, especially the last two are pretty hideous in nature and you'd be suffering from very disturbing symptoms by this point I would imagine (such as sagging, dead layers of flesh or ulcers/legions around the mucous membranes.)

What's Dexedrine?
Dextroamphetamine is Dexedrine

the likelihood of a doctor giving you a dexedrine Rx is slim to none...
Why not? She has an adderall script (I'm guessing) already.

Did my research all day and I think i have some type of skin disease etc.
Don't self-diagnose, continue seeking medical attention, this sounds very serious. Have you had your liver and kidneys tested?

Gotcha, makes sense now. Good luck babidolliexoxo, I hope the side effects go away. But honestly, Adderall has so many side effects, it did not take very long for me to get to the point where I just won't put that in my body anymore. There may not be a solution other than to stop taking the medication, keep that in mind, especially because your side effect sounds very serious and is unknown to me.

Thank you everyone!!! I will be going to see different doctors and see what the real problem is.

Personally, I'd go to my primary care physician and bring it up with him or her. It's always nice to get a few different professional opinions, but fuck, man, doctor trips are expensive as hell.

My best advice in the meantime is not to stress, though. Don't convince yourself you have a disease until you have some kind of legitimate confirmation. It's ridiculous how easily the internet can turn even the most sensible of us into hypochondriacs.

Keep us posted on this one, though? You know, as long as it doesn't embarrass you or anything. I'm pretty interested in finding out whether drug use/medication is causing your skin to change color so drastically.
