Hi there,

I have been prescribed .5 - 1.0mg xanax ever 6hrs (or as needed )

I eas given 60 1mg pills

i have been taking 1mg every 6hrs for five days

how long before I develop a "dengerous" tolerance?

when should I stop

I think I should take them only when going tintos= sitiations when definately needed

... the reason I got them is for opiate detox and I do actually experiecnce severe social anxiety

thanx

Well, I would use them for what you need them for now as scripted, however I would make sure your dr is willing to taper you off properly when he wants to take you off. Addiction with Xanax does not take long best way to find out since it's only been 5 days it to skip a dose or two and see how you feel. Considering you are detoxing.. you might already feel like shit though. Your dr would not have given you Xanax knowing you were detoxing from opiates unless he thought you needed them so maybe call him and discuss your concerns and make sure he is willing to properly taper you off of them. Good luck!

Take them as needed only. I know you got these for anxiety. I did the same thing. Just have them around. Don't take them regularly, in your case, it's not necessary.

If you think opiate detoxification is miserable, wait until you come off of benzos (like xanax). Trust me, you don't want to have that happen. It's horrible, not to mention potentially lethal. Stop while you're ahead and use them very sparingly, or not at all.

thats kind of crazy, most doctors dont prescribe benzos for opiate withdraw. alcohol withdraw maybe but that would involve diazepam or clorazepate. if your woried about addiction i would stay away from the benzos entirely.

Some thoughts...

You can *drastically* reduce your chances of developing a serious dependency to benzodiazepines by taking them sparingly. You've made a great step, the most crucial one, in beginning to not take them every day. I think the soundest advice is likely to be taking them strictly as needed, because if they are taken any other way you will begin to feel, psychologically, that you need to take them. This is when problems with addiction can really manifest, because the compulsion and habit of taking the pills under the guise of medicating a condition. This is especially likely to happen in those recovering from (or who are currently in the throes of) opiate addiction. I know where these things can lead to because I've been there myself! So, hopefully, I can give ya some of these bits of knowledge I had to learn the hard way (because of my stubbornness, no doubt)...

Good move asking for advice, man, and I sincerely wish you well on your recovery from opiate dependency. That's the most difficult thing in the damn world for me, and I have yet to succeed!

Dont use benzo like xanax more than some weeks. Im addicted to benzo, it started with valium, then i got xanax from the doc, then flunipam, didnt take more than two months before i was addicted, without knowing it.

And so you know it, it is first after a week you get the worst abstinenses(english?) it hurt most, not after a day or two, maybe after 3-4. And it will not go away before many months!

Be carefull!

Thats my word
