Okay so i've taken 50mg tramadol once, didn't feel anything, so i'm planning on taking 100mg today.
I read that you could take valium to higher the seizure threshold, i have a benzo tolerance though, would itstill higher the seizure threshold?
Should i take valium?
If so, how much should i take?
How long before should i take it?
How long does it take for tramadol to kick in and peak and how long does the high last?
Is it alright to smoke weed while on it?
Thanks in advance
1) If you've tested 50mg and got no adverse effects, you are unlikely to be highly sensitive to it, so I would raise the dose further. 100mg won't have most people feeling much either. I would dose at around 200-300mg.
2) Your benzo tolerance will decrease the effects from a given benzo dose, so to receive the same level of anticonvulsant action as a non-tolerant individual, you will simply have to take more diazepam.
3) Although it is generally a bad idea to combine CNS depressants, low doses of opioids and benzos are pretty safe. Particularly with tramadol, larger doses will be safer in terms of seizure risk, although there is obviously greater risk of respiratory depression.
Some people find benzos to dull and mask the opiate high, while for others, it adds to it. Personally I much prefer tramadol with a small dose of benzos; it relieves the 'jittery' spastic feelings the trams may give you, and adds to the sedation towards the end of the effects.
4) Depends on your tolerance. You need not take a dose you would 'feel' normally, at least recreationally; if you take them as prescribed, then your regular therapeutic dose should be fine. If not, then 10-30mg of diazepam, depending on your tolerance, should be alright.
5) Apart from mild residual effects from active metabolites, I find diazepam - or its principal effects - to be quite short-acting. Tramadol is the opposite; it is metabolized into the far more potent O-desmethyltramadol, which is largely responsible for its effects (tramadol in itself is active, but can still almost be considered a prodrug). Tramadol has a mean half-life of around 6-7 hours I think, but O-desmethyltramadol's was something like 9 hours, so the total duration can easily be around 10-12 hours. Tramadol has increased oral bioavailability with repeated dosing, so it is more efficient to space out your doses, say, 30-45 minutes. If I were taking 300mg tramadol and 30mg diazepam, I would do the following:
00:00 100mg tramadol
00:30 50mg tramadol
01:00 50mg tramadol + 20mg diazepam
02:00 50mg tramadol
02:30 50mg tramadol + 10mg diazepam
I would definitely take the diazepam after the tramadol - it is more rapidly absorbed and has a shorter duration of action, and you don't "need" the diazepam before significant amounts of tramadol and O-desmethyltramadol are active in your system.
You could take it all in one go, but would result in lowered bioavailability, less O-desmethyltramadol and less activity, and a shorter duration. You would feel the peak effects quicker, that's true, but it's not worth the trade-off IMO. With dose regime above, I'd say you'd hit peak effects around 3:30-4 hours, and intense peak effects would easily last a good 5-8.
Finally, it is totally alright and, in my opinion, highly pleasurable to smoke weed while on tramadol. For one, it can help combat possible nausea, but it is just pleasant in general, as smoking weed tends to be.
