New to intravaneous heroin injection, please help

Hello all,

I'm new to the intraveneous way of doing heroin and I just had a few question if you all dont mind helping. Thank you! I've been waterbanging or snorting powder heroin for a while now and just recently got into injecting it. The other night after injection I ended up with a sore lump on my arm, not sure what to think of that, kinda worried. It's starting to go away but still a bit sore. I know I missed the vein. Question: best way to keep used needles sterile, and easiest way to hit veins and know your in the vein and not just a dead area. If anyone knows of a website with pictures that would be helpful. Hot compress, sterile dressing, antibiotic ointment. See a doctor if it goes red, swollen, gross or oozy, or if the inflammation starts to spread. There's nothing more you can do.

Best way to keep used needles sterile is throw them into a sharps box and not use them. Sterility is only half the problem with re-using needles - the needle gets blunted every time it goes through your skin and by the 3rd penetration you are jabbing yourself with a sippy straw, basically. Re-using needles is risky and stupid - don't do it.

If you must go down this route (and remember, you've barely a chance in hell of coming off once you start) you really need to learn how to register your shots before pushing that plunger.

All it involves is getting the needle into your arm/vein.
If you think it's in the right spot, draw back on the syringe, a plume of deep red blood should flare into the barrel

This is how you know you're in a vein and good to go.

Registering shots can be a nightmare if the solution in the barrel is too dark to see anything.
If that's the case I would go for a bigger barrel syringe to get the solution colour as light as possible.

Another thing is, missing shots hurts.
So always push slow and try to sense any pain before you fuck up your arms too much.


Remember the odds are stacked against you and you're in for a really shit time.

Also, the more of this stuff you can get, the better.

Basically, locate a vein. push in. as soon as the bevel is under the skin, pull back the plunger to create a small vacuum effect and about a pea sized 'bubble' in the syringe. Keep pushing in until you hit a vein, when you do, the syringe automatically registers when using this method.

As far as misses go, hot compress and sterile dressing.

If you want to get 2 or 3 uses out of your syringes, I would recommend you completely flush each with rubbing alcohol after each shot, and let air-dry in a sterile place (this is basically impossible) so its best to just use them one time.

The best way to keep needles sterile is to unpack them just before the use. End of story.

How is this harm reduction? I can see threads with questions like how much drug 1 + drug 2 to feel euphoria. Why are threads like this tolerated? Answering or ignoring either questions doesn't mean a person asking is not going to do something or is going to do something. We have completely no impact on people coming here for a piece of advice.

Also, I've seen a lot of threads about situations involving reusing the same equipment a couple of times. Maybe it's a good thing to make a sticky "How to shoot up and not stop seeing your veins after 6 months".

This is more harm reduction than those threads on here about how to defeat time-release mechs, opiate potentiation, solubility of filleretc... Where do you draw the line if there is one? I'm here to help anyone I can.

OP - I can't just say stop shooting up, and that be that... but here, I'll spell it out for you: Know your veins. What is a vein? An Artery? You die if you hit an artery. Don't fuckin do that. Needles. You gotta be able to get a positive register or you don't shoot it. You don't get your shot either, if you get a false register and just a little blood gets in, it''s going to clog up. (Pull is out and shake a bit, let gravity take the bloodclot towards the plunger, then basically re-register while keeping the plunger below the tip so the clot stays down there, and shoot until like the last 10 units. that's all nasty clotted blood, don't shoot that, you'll get an embolism. cap it and toss it away.

There is just so much to know about it that you learn as you go.

Always use a fresh syringe. Always use a Micron Wheel Filter, NEVER heat your shots, Always get a good solid register, register again when you have shot 1/2 the barrel. (This also gives you a chance to make sure it isn't way too strong), finish the shot completely. lay the barrel down flat on your arm, get an alcohol swab or a cotton w/ antiseptic on it and with the same hand pull the syringe out of your arm while pressing down on the cotton, tape the cotton to your arm with pressure so that there is no bleeding and there is pressure on the injection site. The first 30 minutes after the injection are going to determine how it looks for the next week, whether or not it scars, how the vein heals, etc...
Use Neosporin and Vitamin E topically to reduce scarring and renew tissue. Make sure to scrub the whole area with soap and water when you are in the shower.

You will need this shit.
- 1mL (100 Unit) 29 or 30 gauge 1/2" tip insulin syringes.
- Whatman .22 micron filter
-3mL 23g Leur-Lock tip mixing syringe
-1 sterile 10mL pre-sealed glass vial
-30mL (One vial) of either Bacteriostatic Water or Sodium Chloride for Injection. (Use Sodium Chloride for Heroin)
- Antiseptic pads (Alcohol pads, etc...)
- Probably some band-aids, gauze, neosporin, tape, and Vitamin E liquid or capsules.

Hey dumb question but I have one of those powerful UV lights built for killing algae in fishtanks. Apparently you're not suppose to even look at the bulb when its on cause it emits a dangerous type of UV (maybe UV C I think) but would that be good enough to rinse out a syringe with alcohol, then store it in front of the UV light?

That should technically kill most bacteria right? Thanks.

Edit: And also I know alcohol is good for killing bacteria but I heard you can buy the 30% Hydrogen Peroxide (Baquacil at pool shops) and there is something you can mix it with that will cause the peroxide to decompose into ozone. Isn't ozone the same thing these UV lights produce that is suppose to be exception at killing bacteria? I think in labs they steam them first then just store them in front of UV lights. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like with the right equipment you could possibly replicate a very near sterile environment.

Short wave UV is absorbed well by plastics and is not suitable for sterilizing syringes.

If you are sterilizing syringes, make sure they are glass syringes and use an autoclave or pressure cooker. Otherwise, buy new syringes. Alcohol/UV lights are not enough, and peroxide and/or bleach will degrade plastic syringes.
