NEW to Heroin

I've been taking pain pills for about 6 years or so and have been interested in trying heroin. An acquaintance of mine is going to be giving me some later tonight. To make a long story short, I know that the heroin in my area is all white. My question is, how can I tell that it's actually heroin instead of some white substance that mimics the appearance of heroin? I'll be snorting it, not shooting. Is there any way for me to tell whether or not it's the real deal or if I'm just being ripped off?

I don't think so unless you do some lab test. I never know if my tars good until I actually do it. Sometimes it tastes bomb and smells bomb but is crap and other times I'm wary of it but after doing it its bomb

The only way I know other than testing it is through experience I got to be able to tell from looking at, smelling and tasting it, which doesn't help you. It will have a slightly bitter smell/taste, but different from crushed aspirin or tylenol, but it's hard to explain what exactly it is to someone who hasn't smelled/tasted it before. Avoid it is it smells/tastes like cocaine (sometimes where I live people will cut heroin with cocaine or sell cocaine pretending it's heroin). It can be different colours depending on the type of heroin, what it's cut with etc, so I can't be of much help there. How much do you trust the person who is getting it for you? Have they used heroin from this dealer before? Do you have any reason to think they might rip you off? How are you going to be using the heroin (snort, smoke, plug, IV?)

I have found that once boiled down and prepared it will have a very bitter taste. We only have tar here in cali(mostly) i have only seen brown powder once. The tar will usually have a vinegar like smell from the acid(forgot the name of it) that was used to extract it. The tar here is usually cut with dark brown sugar and is easy to detect. Though even with that, it can still be amazing. The best bet would be to know who you are getting it from. Also try a small amount first because with H, you never know how strong it will be. I personally have saved three people's lives, and unfortunately have had two friends die in my arms. I saved the others with naloxone, which you can usually get for free at your local needle exchange. The moderator before has all the other answers i would have also said. Thanks.

Most opioids have a bitter taste so it would be tricky to tell if it was another opioid such as fentanyl, or if it was heroin but adulterated with something like benzos or barbituates just from taste. Trying a small bit first is definitely wise; you should get into the habit of doing this with every new batch just in case.. taste/smell/appearance and experience can definitely help and as SD said are all most users have to go on, but to be really safe you'd need a sample lab tested. I don't think EZ-test kits would cover the appropriate substances to be of much use. Also keep an eye on any warnings issued in needle exchanges etc of dodgy batches going around. They're quite good about that in my city.

Good call on the naloxone Norcaluser! It's also a really good idea to learn CPR OP; you never know when you might need it..

It will most likely be a tan powder somewhere near the color of balsa wood. There is no simple way of telling what is actaually in the powder. Any dealer worth his salt wont cut it with anything dangerous, they want you to come back.

What pain meds are you currently on? You may have a tolerance which would affect how you feel the bag.

most dope is tan but some is white too, some people think if its white it must be cut alot but thats not always true i think it depends on how they manufacture it and where it comes from. usually it will smell vinegary to some degree and taste alot more bitter than a pill or another opiate. i dn what fentanyl analouges taste like but i do know that sucking a fent patch pretty much is like having a peice of scotch tape in ur mouth theres not much taste at all.

This isn't 100% always the case but if you're crushing it under a dollar bill or something (you said you were snorting) listen for a crunching sound. ALL the dope in my area of the east coast is powder. Like I said, thats no garuntee of purity, but the real good scag around my area crunches when you crush it, mostly (there's ALWAYS an exception to the rule). If you trust your source, start slow, see how you feel and up your dose until you're satisfied. You'll know how strong it is within 5-10min post snort/bitter drip.

Oh, and color doesn't mean much. I've had 90+% pure diacytalmorphine (aka heroin) in every color from white to very very dark brown. I've also had complete garbage in every color from white to deep brown as well. One thing though, is that a lot of powder has little rocks in it. You want these rocks to be hard (crunchy when crushed like I said before).
