    Welcome Guest!

New to EDM, Couple Qs? Dancing?

You'll have less of a good time if your worrying about how people are viewing you. If you roll the dance moves should just come naturally.

Bearlove put it perfectly!

Finding events depends on area- you could check out plurlife.com and go to the events page if you want a more traditional rave scene or club, and you don't care if it's a bit low budget or underground. For clubs, you can also go to yelp.com, go to your city and then go to the night club category- generally, smaller cities seem to not have clubs entirely devoted to EDM. Or...wait until a big EDM artist or event comes close to you =)

alot of places will have local boards as well....check out your local light/costume store, see if you can find fliers, that should at least give you an idea of where to start looking

As many people already said - don't give a shit!

What's important about dancing is what you feel and that you have fun doing it. Messing yourself up with thoughts like 'does it look good?' will take all the pleasure of a blissful dance experience. Just get in, get blown by the music and move like you want to! :)

most people at raves are just bobbing their heads to the music, jumping up and down etc.

like everyone else has said, just move to the music. start with bobbing your head and the music will take you from there!

^^good way to get slapped/stabbed/shot....so bad advice. I have personally punched a few dudes that were walking around the party creepin on every girl there. i hate to throw out PLUR, cause its so overused, but...NOT PLUR!!

TL had it right, no one gives a shit, just move and have a good time. If ur really concerned with ur dancing, just watch what other people are doing, and try and copy the bits that you like. Eventually you'll develop your own style.

Its pretty easy to tell whos with someone and who isn't. Also, eye contact is a big sign. I wouldn't say to creep on every girl in the place, but there are nights where I'll wind up dancing with a couple girls. Its all part of the flow.

Lots of good advice here already. I personally prefer breaks- tek funk and electro house which is more like the burningman styles. a good free podcast is called "jungo road" if you want to google it and get the free mixsets via itunes or email download.

As for dancing to fast trance type music I usually dance to that in 1/2 time so I can keep my endurance for hours. That is what I like about breaks, the break gives you time to rest or high five someone or sip water. I think you can do whatever dance style/ or moves you want and its 100% cool.

Raves or undergrounds are not those shitty "dress to impress" type bougie clubs where everyone is trying to look cool. Its about freedom to dance how you feel the music. What I found helpful for me was taking about a dozen west african dance classes. The warm ups / moves from that class put me in touch with my hips for the first time in my life. It totally broke me open movement wise and allows me to be even more expressive in my dancing. I have been to both dance classes and raves where I feel like the movement and music allowed me to touch my soul in a new way. E plays a role in that too if you respect it

good luck M1 and keep dancing.

Like everyone has said just dance how ever you want, nobody even cares. But that one dude that told you to grind on people, don't do it its a rave not some lame hip hop thing. I usually shuffle when I'm at raves (: or I just jump and run around having fun with everybody.
