Hey Bluelighters,

I havent been on these forums in years, till recently. I've been lurking around lately though to see what might be up around here. I've actually just moved to the Bay Area for work. Now, I've read (and heard) that the SF area is a very progressive and open community, but being new to the area and not knowing a single person (other than my new co-workers), I was wondering where people goto hang out and what people do around here in their spare time, minus the tourist stuff and the usual (bars, movies, etc. which I can find out through the web or other sources and will probably be doing that when family or friends come to visit)

From some of the posts I've read in this forum on this subject, it seems that the bay area has much to offer. But where do you go around finding info for parties and events, other then here? (I read the thread http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=469599 and found it be very informing, but lacking specifics, although I will hopefully somday try some of the spots it suggested) Also where might be some chill spots to hang out and meet some cool people, I've heard, and I guess am starting to witness, that most folks are pretty friendly around here. (I recently also got medicinal card, another benefit of being here in CA, so any nice cafes/clubs and stuff would be cool also). I guess I'm just lookin for anything to cure my boredom since moving out here. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

where do you go around finding info for parties and events, other then here?

step 1: subscribe to the sfraves email list - [email protected]

step 2: identify a party that looks fun to you. attend said party.

step 3: meet like-minded people, make friends, add them to your facebook.

step 4: get promoted to incessantly on the facebook, repeat steps 2-4.

Right on. Thanks for the reply and info. I guess facebook is really the way to go these days for anything social...

Another question I had to Bay Area dwellers is that, do most of you go into the city to hang out, or make it only an occasional visit (When the bay bridge is operational) and stay mostly within your own boroughs? I'm actually close to Palo Alto in the South Bay.

whatsup and welcome to the bay, berkeley here. I suggest you get a cannibus club card if you like smoking, some of the clubs are quite social. oh i read your post, you have a card, check out the san pablo club in berkeley, quite social, volacanos to use for free you can hang out and smoke in their, get a massage etc... bands sometimes, they have snacks tea, water, coffee etc.

Hey,

Thanks for the reference. Yeah, out here in south bay area, the clubs/cafes have been ok, but not that impressive. Good to stop by and pick up what you need, but nothing in the sense of a social setting.

I will definitely look up and check out san paolo club in Berkeley. I've also heard of some in Oakland that are very popular and nice, although I don't really know where to find them yet. Not really sure about SF city itself either, only thing I really know there are the major tourist spots. I just started my new job about 2 months ago, so I will most likely be in the area for awhile (and also explains my lack of any knowledge or people in the area, and at the same time kinda makes it harder to head out to parties alone. Although I hear there are killer ones out here). I guess I'll just have to keep exploring. Thanks again!

San Francisco here.

Don't bother with a card, tbh. You'll find weed everywhere here, if you know at least 1 person who attends any university here. Or 1 hippie.

Parties, events check ravelinks.com, bayraves.com, facebook.

the bay area does indeed have MUCH to offer you.

acid is going around, tons of clean X, AMT is bout to be in town.

2c-e, 2c-b, t7, DMT. opiates, stimulants, crack, meth, coke.

weve got it all. come one come all..

Once again thanks for the replys. The problem is that I didn't know anyone here prior to moving, which is also why I decided to go with the medicinal card. (I'm a regular smoker and would have really dreaded the transition without some greens or knowing someone who can provide me with some, my other alternative being smuggle it on plane or have a friend Fedex it over) Most clubs/cafes I've been too so far have been fairly good to good, but none have been that impressive yet. Then again, my visits have all been within the south bay.

I've been to the city once or twice since moving. It was with some family members though and visited only a couple major sites, so I've yet to see most of SF. I do plan to make the trip more often, as long as there is a reason to. I had a couple friends at Berkeley a couple years back, but the few people I knew there have gone off to work or grad school. Anyways, thanks for more references, I will continue to look through them and lurk around here. Any more recommendations would, of course, be appreciated. Thanks again.

As someone said for party info, check out bayraves.com and ravelinks.com for electronica parties. If you're more into Top-40/Hip Hop, most places in the South of Market Area in San Francisco have plenty of decent clubs (ie 1015, Ruby Skye, City Nights,Temple, etc.). Also downtown San Jose has some night clubs, but sadly due to laws in San Jose, they usually close by 2 or 3 PM.

Meet people at the parties or take part in forums on bayraves and ravelinks and you can meet a lot of locals too.

People out here are really chill and most people are open minded and really are open to meeting new cool peeps.

I work in the PA area and there isn't much to go to there, although it is a college town, there are some clubs and night clubs, which are mostly hit up by Stanford kids, but TBH most go to the city to party.

Yea, I've been lurking the boards at bayraves and ravelinks also now and found them to be very helpful eventwise, thanks! I've found a couple parties that I might try to attend (maybe ask a coworker =X, or if I'm really bored enough, go it alone (which I'm getting closer and closer to)). The forums over there are a bit intimidating, everyone seems to already know each other or are part of some clique, so I've mostly reserved myself to browsing and reading. (I guess the same can even be said about this forum and most other forums, although I've found this one to be one of the most friendliest and open most times).

I also work in the Palo Alto area (a little south actually of PA), but find it to be pretty boring overall (not the bay area as a whole, but more of south bay). I do hit up bars and night clubs every so often, but I'm out of college now and never found it to be really my thing even when I'd go often during college (not much of a drinker). I haven't been to any in the area yet, but I forsee it being the same as bars/clubs in most any other area (probably try a couple with some coworkers soon, don't have much interest in visiting them alone, although most my co-workers are either older or family men/women).

Anyways for the most part, I am just checking into my own thread. I think, overall, that I'm just in need of finding some groups of friends out here to just hang out and chill with, or even hit up the occasional parties/bars/clubs or just do any normal activities with. I guess it will all come along eventually with time, just kinda sucks moving somewhere where you know no one at all. Thanks again to all your suggestions, hopefully see you all around the city someday.

Yeah I know what you mean about going out to places now. Being an older person, I find myself going to a lot of things at night by myself. Most of my friends really aren't into my type of "scene." Often times I will bump into people I know from Bayraves at some of the events, but they're more acquaintances and not people I hang out with on a regular basis.

Anyhow I don't mind hanging out with like minded folks so if if I bump into ya one day, that'll be cool.

bay area raves?

is there somekind of mailing list to know when raves are occuring? i know people rave often here but i'm not in the raving crowd, but i'd still like to know when they're occuring. how do you find out when raves are?

im sure there is a mailing list but im not from the bay area so im not too sure...but check the events section for upcoming ones

your answer(s) are in another bay area thread we have in this forum. i'll merge this one in - have a read through the combined thread and let me know if you still have any questions :)

any danger in going to raves alone ?

won't some people take advantage of you ?

take advantage?

you do realize your dealing with drug addicts right?

theres an honor code lol

hey all,

just checking back into my old thread. I've been pretty busy during the holiday season, flying back home for the holidays and stuff, so I haven't been able to chill out much in the city.

anyways, for the people asking questions, you should really check out the links people gave me earlier in this thread. Although I have yet to take full advantage of them, I have been lurking and found that it contains many parties/events. (The community over there is just a bit established already, so it's a bit intimidating to jump in) Like I said though, I've been out of town, so I can't really comment on the quality of the parties.

also, I was just wondering where I might find this merged thread mentioned by @lterego. Just to find some more information and see what people are up to in the area. leave me a message if you want to ever hang out, and thanks again for all the links and info.

hey darth, the threads are already merged (it was the "bay area raves?" discussion that got merged with this one) so you're in the combined thread now :)

feel free to send me a pm or drop a note in this thread if there's ever any specific weekend you're looking for parties. i'm laid up with a broken ankle right now and probably won't meet you out, but most weekends i can at least recommend something in the sf area that is likely to rock.
