Hi. New here. introducing myself and asking for help. I think I have an abscess from missed meth hits. I had a hard knot in my arm with swelling and heat. Over time it got better but the vein remained large and hard. I got desperate because I was having trouble hitting anywhere else and used the area again. It's hard and sore. Can I wait it out again or go to ER? I'm scared to go and scared not to go. I dont want to go alone. And will my regular doctor find out what I went to the ER for? Thank you.

Welcome to BL! If it were me I would go to the ER. Although I can't be honest whilst saying that I have much experience with abscesses. That being said, if you can manage to put the affected area in a tub of warm water with epsom salt that would help. If not then mix warm water with epsom salt and soak a rag with the solution and keep it on the area for 10-15 minutes. You would probably have to do this 3 to 4 times a day for it to really help. Definitely give that vein/area a rest. I do know typically if it's painful, has streaks running from the site of injection, or if it is pink/red and puffy or if you get a fever you should go to the ER. Some abscesses are just too bad and you need antibiotics for them. Unless you have an in house type of insurance plan...like TriCare or Kaiser, the only way your doctor would even know about the ER visit would be if you told him about it and/or signed a release form allowing the hospital to release those records to him.

Also the reason for the soaking would be to help the abscess come to a head. In which case you would then have to open and drain it.

this sounds rather unfortunate; can you stop shooting up for a while?

prodding the affected area over and over again is not a good idea.

I know how overwhelming the desire to use meth can be, so please try to find a new vein IF you cannot resist the temptation.

Finally, please seek some medical help
