Hi Everyone- I have been taking anywhere from .5 mg to 1 mg a day for 5 1/2 weeks. These were prescribed by a doctor who was ignorant And said I could go cold turkey. How do I taper?
I don't for how long you have been taken them, but if you have gone that far ( 1 mg for more than 5 weeks) you can try half for a couple of weeks and try to jump it from there. You'll probably feel uncomfortable for sometime but you'll be fine. Better having that solved now than later. It took me so many years to get off of benzos!
Good luck and welcome to Bluelight!
As 'Erikmen' has said - just halve your daily dose for a couple of weeks then stop.
Tapering simply means taking a little bit less daily for your body to adjust (and makes it easier on you) - as the amounts your taking are not that high then you should be able to do it in two stages. Some people with a bigger tolerance would need to make a few smaller steps to make it a bit easier.
you need to go to a benzo that has a longer half life, (valium or ativan) usually is what swim got too taper from xannz...then just jump off. also, wiht valium, grapefruit juice apparently either increases the potentcy or make the half life longer or dissapate more?, either way theres a note on the script to diaz. that says "do not drink wiht grapefruit juice". eventually yyou take so much benzos that withdrawals become easier to handle, IMO
Had a friend who got hooked on xanax about a year ago, he was doing something like 1-2 mg a regular day somedays more, for about 3 months i belive and sounded like it was pretty darn rough when he quit it cold turkey. Luckily he had a great gf who helped him get trough it.
Personally i would probs prefer goin over to a slower acting benzo (like clonazepam mby?) and not going CT but taking it in steps.
