If one is in possession of prescription narcotics (in my case specifically, oxycodone) is it illegal after a certain amount of time has passed?

Is what illegal? To be in possession of any narcotics is always gonna be illegal. It doesn't matter if they are 20 years old or 1 day old. I guess your talking about the pills. I'm kinda confused but I'll fall back and let another member answer. I'm new and it's my very first dayyyyyyy. LoL

Hi there. I am a new member as well. To enodocyxo: like RawOutLaw85 said, any pills bought illegally, will always be illegal. But if you meant "expired" instead of "illegal" -- then most likely no. Here is this little excerpt I read, cut and pasted from another website: "Folks.... there is absolutely no evidence to suggest Morphine or any of it's cousins in the Opiate family degrade over appreciable amounts of time. Most likely , if stored in a cool , dry place, the shelf life is somewhere in the 90-200 year range! Expiration dates are nothing more than a ploy by by the FDA to scare the consumer into buying more drugs as big pharma has a hand in most of what the FDA decides . Dont beleive they are "expired" when it comes to Opiate meds."

If you're talking about a prescription in your name, in most places they become illegal once they pass the expiry date since it's a clear sign that you're no longer prescribed. But I really doubt you'd actually get in trouble even if you were caught with them. You obviously don't wanna carry them with you if you're gonna do something questionable though

I'm not sure about the law, but most people who are looking at this stuff are just looking at your name and are not the most thorough of people. If you get that one anal cop or whatever, just plead ignorance. If it's not your name, you're baked.

Last summer I was on my way home from work, I got into a big fight with hubby. Long story short, I picked up a case of beer and was parked in a McDonald's parking lot, Wi-Fi spot lol. I drank more than 1/2 the case of beer was fucking around on my phone and didn't realize it was 3am. Police officer rolls up, I had beer cans all over the case on the front passenger seat. Next thing I knew 3 more cruisers pull up. After a big pow wow me against all of them, they decided because I was parked and not driving I didn't break the law. They said I could leave my car and they would drive me home. But asked to look in my purse. I said go ahead. Inside of my purse was my prescription for vyvance. I had rx filled 2 days prior and only had 1/2 bottle. I also had a bottle of my sister's rx aderall 30mg, her daughter's 15mg and the quick release aderall 10mg. They became suspicious and started in on me about that. Truthfully my sister and I mix, match and swap our rx' s always. I was quick on my feet to say, I leave 1/2 of my meds at work because I often forget my purse. I said I have my nieces because I watch them a few times a week and I need to be sure I have their meds on me because of how out of control they get. No more questions asked. When under the gun, think fast, be firm and show no weakness.
