being a former near - alcoholic now a moderate imbiber trying to understand how crack and meth can bring people down like it does. seeing veterans and former academics now homeless and destitute is puzzling to me. I live in an area where the weather is fairly moderate and the nearest town of any size lots of homeless and transients.
