Hello, can anyone tell me what do the new laws in affect from 1.7.2013 mean for the festival goers in Hungary?
Is anyone here from Hungary, what is the current situation over there?
Let's say a person has like 1-5g of cannabis or 5 ecstasy pills or something similar?

The Hungarian government has adopted a new “national anti-drug strategy”, the aim of which is to completely eradicate drugs by the year 2020. The document is entitled “Clear Consciousness, Sobriety and the Fight Against Drug Crime” and it has been severely criticised by professional organizations because of its moralising approach and ideologically loaded language. In 2010 the government rejected the pragmatic, progressive national drug strategy adopted by the previous administration, even though it enjoyed broad support among civil society organizations. Since then, the country has had no national drug strategy.

Some politicians really do live on another planet don't they...

The Hungarian Government are cunts of the highest order. Absolute dirty corrupt cunts where all the money goes straight into their pockets. That and law enforcement. The rest of the services get pittance compared to the police. Feel so sorry for the people as they don't deserve it. It's quite worrying as things seem to moving towards right-wing idealism's. A recent example was the Mayor of Budapest sacking the head of culture and replaced him with an actor who has links with the far-right wing Jobbik party. They are a scary lot. The EU are keeping an eye of the whole situation and already have warned Orban about his abusing his powers to limit opposition. I can see a suspension or an expulsion from the EU in a few years. You can also guess that the drug laws are the worst in Europe. Citizens get a 6 month recovery programme and if they get caught again it's jail for 2 years. That was from personal use I think. This new law is even stricter so I don't believe that there is any distinction from personal use anymore! You're caught you're caught. Every substance comes under the same punishment.

Saying this I've been many a night out in Budapest. It's a fucking great city for partying in, loads of great clubs with great DJ's and a really good Underground scene as well. People know how to have fun and party here, believe me! Most people are off their tits and bouncers etc don't care. You go into the toilets and all you can hear is folk snorting away in the cubicles. I was at Bonusz festival in October and there was no police whatsoever. Not even nearby the event. Seeing as the organisers of Sziget run pretty much all the big festivals here, I've heard that they pay the police off to stay away. I most definitely believe it. I'm going to a brand new 3 day festival run by the Sziget organisers next month, so will be interesting to see if there is any police presence. I don't think there will be though. Will be extra careful to keep my stuff well hidden just in case with this new law anyway.

Yeah that's the thing Ozora isn't run by the big guns and I wouldn't imagine they would go as far as paying off police, which is probably why they got raided last year. I heard it was mostly foreigners that got busted though. Not sure what to make of that. Perhaps they feel that it's becoming too international and don't want to get a bad reputation or something. I'd imagine the potential is always going to be there this year, so just be extra careful where you stash your stuff and stay around the music arena as much as possible. The DJ's and organisers also made warning announcements over microphones so everyone nearby could hear and get to the dancefloor as quick as possible. They were just busting folk around the edges of the arena and tents. As far as I know they didn't even go near the music and dancefloor.

Think it was just a quick raid with quick busts and then the party continued on after but with a sour note I suppose...

eradicate all drugs by 2020....
i really like the way the politicians singled out Hungary's biggest problem. its not the economy, or the debts or unemplyment. its drugs. and a lack of "clear consousness"
wanted to go to ozora but always thought id get busted for some reason :P

Well - they actually surrounded the dancefloor which wasn't closed as it usually was during the afternoons. The intention was to make it actually impossible for the police to completely shut the festival down.
This video documents the amazing and electrified energy during the raid, when nearly everbody came to the mainfloor to be protected against the police: http://youtu.be/OTiz3Xk5p50.
