im getting a car soon, and ive always wanted to take up mechanics and know shit about cars, im buying a 1990 honda accord soon, the only problems is that the power steering is leaking and the ac needs freon. i know how to fix the freon shit but the power leak is the shit that i dont know about, how would i be able to identify and fix a power steering leak?

getting a honda from the 90s is the best way to earn your stripes as a shadetree mechanic for sure, just so many parts to choose from mmmm.

best way to figure out how to fix problems is simply to find the subsystems in the honda service manual and check each related part until you find the source of the problem. a very DIY way to find the source of difficult leaks is wiping the area clean with a rag then throwing some sawdust over the area until it sticks to the source of the leak. i've thankfully never had to deal with power steering on my cars but if it were leaking i think it would likely be somewhere in the lines between the pump and the reservoir.

you should be able to find a honda service manual for your car in PDF by googling your car model and year and adding service manual to the query. feel free to PM me if you need help, i have a fair bit of honda specific experience :)
