Hi all,

I've read a lot here-been helpful, so I thought I'd sign up and join in (anyone know how we can post a pic/avatar)
no luck so far.

Anyway, I've been prescribed (same stuff 5 years now) 2 mg Xanax at bedtime, 2 mg klonapin during the day, with .05 Xanax during the day (panic attacks)
the bedtime Xanax - to sleep. All started 5+ years ago. Went 3 weeks--zero sleep. Felt like death.
Dr tells me it's stress from job, and not shutting brain off to relax. (Biz owner)

My chemistry seems wonkey. Like-things that are supposed to help you sleep, make me hyper.
(ambien, any over the counter sleep aids, restoril did nothing, etc)

only key think that helped was Xanax

Fast forward to today: Xanax not as effective, prob been on it too long.
i moved to North Carolina.
No one will refill my meds, even after 5 years of being on benzos.

Psych doctors are 2-3 months backed up, I'm self pay, and 350/hour ?!

walk in clinics--no. Won't do it even with telling them they'd get a copy of medical records.

Question: what do I do if I fail to find anywhere to refill the Rx I've been on this long?

I'm very worried about Xanax withdrawals. What do people do?

2-2.5 mg/ day, for 5 years.
I can't go to every doctor -just to find out, as I'm cash pay, and can't afford to just be told no.

My Dr had told me, I was surging way too much adrenaline, and the Xanax "banded" it, allowing me to calm down and sleep.

i honestly have no idea what to do. I am scared of withdrawals. Don't know where to seek help. Drs are too scared it seems to write Rxs for any narcotic meds.

Any advice?

Thank you!

Hey, welcome to Bluelight. Sorry to hear about your anxiety, I know how terrible that can be.

Unfortunately, BL cannot tell you what to say to get a certain prescription.

If you are in danger of going through withdrawal, I suggest contacting your doctor to find out how s/he wants you to taper. Also, if you're all out of medication and are in withdrawal right now, I suggest getting to a hospital ASAP. Although expensive, benzo withdrawal is considered a medical emergency, especially considering the dosage you're on. Sudden withdrawal can cause seizures and various other symptoms. The hospital can help manage those.

Hiya Jessica,

I'm extremely sorry to hear of what you're going through. Sounds very frightening. I don't really know much about benzos, unfortunately but aq has given you some good advice about going to the hospital or seeing your doctor. I'm aware that they can cause seizers without a taper or some sort of medical attention.

You could also make a search for if someone has had to go through this before and see what they did. The search facility is on the top, right of the screen. Simply type in a word eg "Xanax withdrawal" and any threads associated with Xanax withdrawal will be listed. You may also find information at;
