New extremely potent opiate 2015

When I was at my doctor today a woman on pain management said the FDA is to approve a new opiate in January 2015.

It is supposedly much more powerful than oxy.. like 5x is what she said if I remember correctly. Anyone hear of this?
 
So just the usual bullshit drug company tactic, take existing drug, make it into ER formula, patent the ER formula....

yawn. If they don't use OxyNeo style tactics for time release then people will be abusing them left and right... hydrocodone is the number 1 prescribed drug in the USA and if you start giving people 120mg XR tabs at least some people, for sure want to abuse them.

No man, No way you could abuse it :?... Just before release they could put a lot of fucking acetaminophen in there. We all know those poor bastards who are completely ignorant will still eat them, but maybe the XR aspect will have more effect and stay off cirrhosis in some poor livers.

No, they couldn't. Then it would be a different formulation of drug and would need to go through the whole approval process again.

I wonder if this is Hysinga. Looks like the Oxycontin OP version of Zohydro.

The "5x more potent" figure probably comes from the fact there's 5x as much hydrocodone in the highest possible dose strength of Zohydro than the old strengths (maximum of 50mg ER versus 10mg IR)... but the max dose of Hysinga is a whopper 120mg... so you are kidding yourself if you think it won't eventually get abused....

I was actually being quite sarcastic about the tylenol pills. A joke. More of a reference to how ridiculous the Hydro/APAP- 5mg/325. I really do believe it is meant as a sick deterrent for purposeful overdose. After watching my wife's cousin and long time friend destroy her liver and need 1/3 of the blood filter gone in surgery and cirrhosis for the rest. Fuck that...

Acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen etc actually increase the painkilling efficacy of opioids by a large margin. (and not the euphoric effects.)
Vicodin isn't indicated for severe pain either. So it's not there as an abuse deterrent, it's there to make the medication more effective.

That doesn't change the fact that people still take too much APAP sometimes. But you can't honestly believe doctors worldwide have a conspiracy to contribute to preventable medication deaths...
 
I really wish they didn't come out with Zohydro. Once they unveiled it, it wasn't long before hydrocodone was bumped up to schedule 2 making it much harder to find since less doctors are now willing to prescribe it. That's my theory
 
Hydrocodone by itself was always C-II, the combo products were only C-III but I get your point about Zohydro. But honestly, I think Zohydro had very little to do with the rescheduling. Yes, there was some hoopla when it first came out but as of the end of October, Zohydro only has sales of about 18 million dollars. Not exactly a blockbuster that drove hydrocodone abuse to the next level. As far back as 1999, there were groups petitioning for rescheduling and at least 3 times in the past 10 or so years, DEA asked FDA to study the issue and each time it was shot down.

Unfortunately we live in a world where there truly is a massive issue with painkiller abuse, a media who fuels this to even worse levels, and a government agency who doesnt use science to make policy and more, now than ever can make autonomous decisions that serve its own interests more than the people.
 
Is the zorhydo any good? I was taking the hysingla but it dodnt give me much relief. I was on 40 and doc moved me.up to 80 but I haven't picked it up yet bc it was $195.00!
 
Most people into opioids don't give a fuck about hydro. Esp. for a high price like that. People like it that are starting out in their opioid careers. The OPs made oxy so lame that the only ones that people really do anymore are the IRs but mostly people are turning to H nowadays. Better high, and way cheaper.

I think purdue misses its OC days and wants to get back on that train.

You know idiots are going to try and inject this shit though.
 
I actually prefer hydro, it does quite well for me. The opioid that is 5x stronger than oxy is oxymorphone (Opana). Zohydro isn't more "potent" , it's just a higher dose of hydrocodone.
