Well, this is more chemistry than pharmacology. But a new way to create serotonergic drugs from amino acids using UV light has been developed…

Somewhat dubious they refer to these compounds as non psychedelic psychedelics.

It’s like saying it’s water without the h2o… 🤷‍♂️

Psychedelic is a buzz-word now I guess. It looks good in a press release. The new compounds appear (in animals) to be non-psychedelic 5-HT2A agonists. That's about all that's known about them so far. I guess the researchers hope they may offer some of the clinical benefits that psychedelics do, without the trip, but that is not yet established.

you should be skeptical, of animal models. That
head twitch is not a completely empirical response, and the simulations may account for their location, yet substances share a variety of known effects, and everyone is different. I care to mention also, UV light is the instrument mentioned in the article, empirical protocols demonstrate, however, classical psychedelics show a sensitivity to sources of light, and follows the breakdown of substance.

and belated birthday to A. Hofmann.

honestly very proud the work of pharmacuetical companies and UC Berklee alongside UC Davis developing new compounds and psychedelic drugs. who else?! it may seem controversial, but this is great.
