Hello all, first time poster but long time reader and very excited to join the community!

I am an eastern Iowa diesel mechanic with a 6 year opiate habit and have just starting MMT a little over a week ago and have been thinking of switching to subs soon because of all the side effects from methadone. The sweating is uncontrollable! Anyways, could anyone tell where I can post any questions I have about methadone and other related things?

I've done a lot of research here on the subject and has helped me out immensely. Anyways, thanks for reading and look forward to being a part of bl!

Hey man, good luck at MMT that's awesome! Good job my buddy is a diesel mechanic and makes a great living. It's a slightly easy switch over but you'll have to go 72+ hours without taking methadone before you switch to Suboxone. Don't take it too early because you'll be sicker than a dog and put you in full blown withdrawal not even a er dr can help the 2 medicine collide with eachother. Good luck

Thanks man much appreciated! I talked to my nurse at the clinic today and told me the doctor won't let me switch to subs cause I'm on to high a dose of 'done, I didn't think 60mg was that high? Plus I've only been taking it 12 days. Oh well, I'm going to call the clinic in my hometown who does Suboxone treatment and see if they will take me in. And yeah I'm definitely going to wait as long as possible! I've had that happen before but not with methadone. I'm going to switch to a shorter acting opiate like hydro once I'm off the methadone so I can try to avoid w/d's the best I can (and to just enjoy them for a few days) and then wait 24 hrs after the hydro to start on subs. I'm hoping this all works out cause these side effects are kicking my ass!

Well that's plain crazy it seems like the dr wants the methadone money because he's making more on you. I switched from methadone 120 mg to Suboxone at a clinic so it is possible what they did was gave me 5mg less each day until I was at 20mg on that for a few days then I had to stop completely for 3 then they put me on Suboxone. First couple days were tough but nothing unbearable. Whatever you decide to do keep it updated bro so others can learn from what you did.

Sounds good I will keep you updated. It's good to know you went through it successfully, congrats! I have a couple more questions if you don't mind answering...what was your reason to make the switch from methadone to Suboxone? And do you think it's a bad idea to stop taking the methadone at 60mg? Will I still get bad withdrawals considering I've only been taking it for 12 days and plan on going on a short acting opiate in the time I'm off methadone and before I switch to subs? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to get as much info as I can since you have experience on the subject and so I can make an informative decision. Thanks!

I'm actually going through the cold turkey situation so im not close to getting through it ive just been a opiate ,h ,methadone Suboxone user for years I know what it does to you. 12 days is enough to make you sick but just for a day maybe 2 if that . Your main goal is to not take Suboxone too early switching early from methadone will put you in the hospital with hardcore withdrawal for up to 24 hours. Try go as long as you can before your first Suboxone. Suboxone is a blocker if there's a opiate of anything in your system strong the Suboxone reacts to it badly. They say wait longer of methadone because it's such a high level of opiate. And switching really was price and methadone is one of the most addictive opiate believe it or not. You might not be able to tell but your body does.

Oh and being on methadone, the hydros won't do much lol when I was dope sick I could eat 30 of them suckers and still be sick lol even Roxy's wouldnt help. Usually methadone is for heroin users, it was made for heroin Dr's just abuse the system and give to people that should of been on Suboxone.

Dang you really don't think the hydros will work if I'm off methadone for a couple days? I took 50mg when I was on 25mg of methadone and it definetly worked! But that was a pretty low dose of methadone lol. Oh well. Thank you for the info it will certainly help me when it comes time to make the switch, I'll let you know how it goes!

Hey it might work everyone is deferent when I went to my methadone dr he tested my results and said I was close to like 800mg of opiate base from the heroin so u might but if you just take a few a day you might feel some withdrawal

Damn really? Yeah I plan on going slightly lower than what my reg intake was so about 200-250mg and hopefully I can avoid withdrawals from the methadone. I can put up with withdrawal from hydro for 24hrs or so. So going to subs from there should be relatively easy I hope!

Yea man you should be ok with that totally . I always say never take Suboxone unless you need it obviously because that's what it does.

M-Done and hydro's medically will hit ALL your opiate receptors. Now in reality they can kind of cancel out each other in the high department. For most thats a dangerous combo but sounds like you've worked up a good tolerance "good is subjective". I was on MMT and that sucked for me in that i could not reduce the dose but if i had the pills at home i would have probably went through them quick. Subs are nice but don't mix with ANY regular opiates because the have narcan in them and will precipitate WD's. good luck bro. KK

krinkle kutt-
So your saying that though I'm at the dose of methadone that I am (60mg), I might still be able to feel the effects from hydro? Like I said before when I was at 25mg 'done I took about 50mg of hydro and certainly felt it, I almost felt like it synergiesed well with the methadone.

Your at double the dose believe it or not 60mg is alot but if I'm not mistaken you only go into the pwd if you take the Norco first if anything you just wont feel that much. Test the waters

Just an update here-
Went in today for my dose and Sunday take home and asked her is I could start lowering my dose because the side effects and to taper down to be able to make the switch and she wouldn't even let me do that! The only way I can go with my dosing is UP. wtf? So I'm just saying fuck it and double dosed today (not my best decision ever) and now I'm done with methadone and I'm going in Monday to tell them I'm stopping my methadone now regardless of if they will let me in subs or not. So basically either they will agree to put my on there Suboxone treatment or I'm just going to talk to the clinic in my hometown. I just can't believe they won't let me go anywhere with my 'done but up and she even told me she never heard of anyone switching from methadone to Suboxone lol. I tell ya some people just make ya scratch your head...
