Hi, I'm Jenn. 37 y/o mom of 2 ( elementary age kiddos!) .. R.N. for 12 yrs and I hv been using oxycodone ans hydrocodone for about 3- 3 1/2 years. What I have realized is how much my tolerance has increased. I NEVER have enough to last until my next RX. I am finally at the point where I am not controlling this, it is controlling me! It has most def. effected my marriage ( as he does not take RX meds) I have zero need for sex...which really really pisses my dude off!! So that aspect MUST change. I guess I have been contemplating on and off just quiting....COLD Turkey. I say C/T b/c I know myself. .I Say every Month. ..* I'm going to wean myself down and off*...NEVER happens! I am not afraid of nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, restlessness, aches....I get SEVERE dizziness. A mental fog..it is so debilitating that it keeps me wanting to use..just to get rid of that SX...b/c it does resolve it! Instantaniously! I have a dx of bilateral inner ear *hypo-function* which if anyone knows. ..w/o the proper function of your inner ear it causes. .extreme balance problems ( called ataxia) dizziness, visual instability. Ugggg! Its just terrible! Well for whatever strange reason, narcotics dimm my sx! But I an SO SO SO tired of waking up tired! I only have enough to get thru tomorrow, & even those aren't as many as I wld typically use. The good thing is. ..I don't hv to work tuesday or wed...but I do, ALLDAY Thursday and Friday. I have 2-3 subs my bro gv me a long time ago. On the days I work I may need to take a little piece, if my sx are debilitating. I don't want to tho.. but I also can't miss work! For the other SX.. I do hv treatment for those. Well I welcome any relipes, suggestions etc. ... and thanks for reading my story ( or the tiny bit I got to share)
P.S. as u may have noted...I've never done any thing like this, so I hope I did this right so far! Prayers are much appreciated! Warmly, J

Welcome to Bluelight..it is a wonderful community with much to share.

I hate it for you..I know how rough this must be. I have also been a nurse, for 20 years. I am a chronic pain patient on various med for many years to include oxy...been a long time since hydrocodone has done a thing for me..but that was the first narcotic I was started on years ago. I don't have any useful advice for you on cutting back because I know that when you are at a point where you are telling yourself every month that "this month my script will last and I will take them like I should" and it doesn't happen that, well, it just doesnt happen. But I can offer my support. Feel free to PM me if you wish.

Have you went through prolonged WDs as of yet at any point? I only ask because (though I maybe on a much higher dose) that I know that 2 days and then back to work would never be possible for me..I would never make it at work. I get so sick that it would be totally obvious to all around me what was going on. I also couldn't stand to, well, shit my self at work numerous times..it just wouldn't be possible for me to go to work.

Anyways, good luck and I am happy to talk anytime and just know that you are not alone.

*edit*

I just thought of something though. Are you familiar with using immodium tablets to help you through the WDs? I wouldn't suggest it for long term use because you can become dependent on it as well as it is also an opiate/opioid (though available OTC and not a scheduled drug) but it might be useful for you to use to get through your shifts that you cannot miss. Please do a search here on BL regarding it...there is a ton of info.

Hiya JENNG,

Like yourself - I am a newbie I joined yesterday. I would like to welcome you to the forum. I assume that RN means nurse (sorry if I am wrong). You have made a good choice in coming to a recovery site to sort this out n ai have no doubt that you will get support here. First you need to look at the options available to you (I am from UK n not sure where you are from so I'll give basic knowledge - please research locality etc on?).
Drug replacement therapy such as a suboxone or methadone
Cold turkey
Taper

Whatever you decide wr are here for you 100% ok. Do the research then we can start help.

hi thank you so much for replying to my post! I only have a minute to talk I have a very important question I ended up waiting to stop the meds until I have 5 days off which is coming up in a couple days. My question is I have a couple suboxin tablets if I were to take those in break a little piece of here and there for the first couple days would that help or would that just postpone my withdrawal symptoms? Does anybody know! If so I would greatly appreciate the infoas soon as I have more time I will update everybody the following me and what's going on!

hi Jenny G.. ..

i would plan on NoT using the suboxone you have. they will do exactly that in dragging out the detox, especially with a 5 day window plan from your work. i would just get rid of the sub so it is not there to even tempt you.

do you have any other things to help you through the process and for when you return to work? gabapentin or lyrica would be really nice to have. it sounds like you deal with chronic pain so you could easily get one of these prescribed. maybe a hand full of benzos sleep during just that first week, then try switching to liquid melatonin. good multi vitamin, vitamin c, b complex, b12, potassium and magnesium supplements. .. . when you post back with more details more help can be given in your direction.

if this can get moved over to sober living there is loads of really great support over there. sober living and the dark side are both two areas you should check out as i think they will be more then helpful to you. when you have the time let us know more information on your plans for this detox and where your current dosing falls and we will help you all we can. you can make it in and through this! you are sooO not alone in! <3

Hiya Jenn,
Welcome to Bluelight. This site is AWESOME,
Extremely supportive, the people here are very caring as you've seen from your thread n you'll get lots of support.
Look around the sight to see where you can best get support, like may 'other drugs' section. You'll find lots in the same boat.
I have had a codeine addiction n am now on suboxone 8 mg. You're more than welcome to PM me ANYTIME if you need someone to talk to, vent or whatever. Withdrawals are not easy but with support you can do this. We are all here for you.
Best of luck and please keep posting,

here's the plan!!!!

hi friends!I just want to say thank you again to everyone who has replied and given me excellent guidance and advice and encouragement! so basically my deal is for the last couple (2-3) years as I've mentioned- I have been on oral opiates and i just keep consuming larger and larger amounts. I take them because for whatever wierd reason it helps w/ my inner ear sx ( severe dizziness, mental fogginess) I have hypofuction of both inner ears so apparently the vicodin and Percocet are stimulating .. but regardless, I'm tired of it running my life.... it's like it is the center of my world. .everything revolves are them! Sooo I AM done as of Friday morning. So essentially Thursday night will be my last ingestion ( or maybe even earlier ) .. . Depending on when i run out..I have a plan in place, I am a registered nurse so I plan on taking imodium as much as needed, I have klonopin already prescribed to me and I already have gabapentin prescribed to me as well so those two prescription meds made reduce some of the symptoms. I also plan on keeping hydrated if need be with I.V normal saline or lactated ringers ( its like I.V. gatorade, lol) I also have anti nausea medication called zoFran, I also plan on taking Benadryl or ambien to help me sleep. Ohh I also have a med ( non narcotic ) called toradol for pain . Im greatful for. The advice NOT to tk suboxone, I do not at all want to delay w/d, gotta get it started and if those are just going to delay...not what I'm goin for..I was hoping it wld prevent sx but still promote detoxification. Bummer! Friday morning my mom is coming over early to help me get the kids ready for school or actually get the kids ready for school! And I will be off work until that following Wednesday. .I Just plan on taking whatever medication I need to to reduce the symptoms and resting. my mom will be here as much as I need her to be and if I tell my kids I'm sick then they'll behave, for the most part, lol ! They're old enough... because there six and a half an eight. I'm excited but nervous. ..oh well, I hd my innner ear prob. B4 starting these and I was not in bad shape! Ill Get thru this! A lot of prayer, support and symptomatic tx. Y'all kno what I'm really looking forward to .... ( besides a relationship w/ my husband again =0 (...=0) ) WAKING UP FEELING REFRESHED!! I always wake up exhausted. ..thatbis sooooo crazy! Anybody feel me on that!? Well talk soon! Ill mos def keep u guys updated! !!! Ttys!♥

Yes, hate waking up exhausted and depressed, feel you on that!

How are you getting on?
