Remember the report a while ago that claimed that possible brain damage from heavy MDMA use is largely conditioned by genetic variables? I wont discuss the report in detail. But i just read in a magazine that you can tell your genetic pre-disposition by looking at your fingers.

If the middle finger, the one commonly used to make the "fuck you" gesture, is markedly longer than surrounding digits, then you have the resiliant genes. The finger should be noticeable longer, to the point of the fingers of both hands meeting if you put your hands together palms upward. The magazine included a helpful illustration of this that i cant reproduce here, hope you more or less get it anyway.

So, whats your thought? True or BS.
My fingers dont measure up by the way. DAMN!:X

my middle finger's longer, but i still don't get what you're trying to say

Although finger length may correlate to some things like penis length etc, I can't see any link with neurochemical type issues.

Had this been posted on 1st April, I might have felt 'Aha! Caught you out'.

That said, I've been wrong in the past, and will be wrong again, so I await to see evidence before dismissing it

Actually the correlation finger lenght - penis lenght is BS, says me own personal empirical investigation on the subject.

But the reasoning behind the neural-protection stuff was that if you have that sort of neurological make-up in your brain, you also have a longer middle digit.

I actually havent found any good links on the net, but i imagine that they didnt just make it up.

you can't believe everything you read on the internet sweetie

I have no clue what you are trying to say "to the point of your fingers of both hands coming together with both hands palm up." That doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

Those kind of replies were to be expected. of course i dont believe everything i read. But as i read it in a magazine, and they seemed sure about their stuff, i want to hear if anyone else have heard anything similar.

Fuck, would help a lot if i could publish the illustration that went with.
OK: the finger to look out for is the middle one, the "fuck you" digit.
You put your hands together, palms upward, until the tips of your smallest fingers meet. Your hands now form a "v" upside down. Now, if your "fuck you" fingers meet or almost meet, you´ve won the genetic lottery.

Or, more easy: if you middle finger is SIGNIFICANTLY larger, than its neighbours.

You need to find the magazine this article came from, or cite a reference to it in some way. Otherwise I may as well start a thread called "neurotoxicity and post count" ;)

No, because it doesn't exist. The researchers found some correlation between genetics and the risk of DEPRESSION after use. Nothing to do with neurotoxicity.

But i just read in a magazine that you can tell your genetic pre-disposition by looking at your fingers.

Smells like bullshit to me.

What kind of magazine was this?

OK, i stand corrected.
Do you have any links to the investigation?

I'd have to agree....It is among the goofiest things I have ever heard put forth about genetics, though it is definitely a field where radical new ideas and changes are put forth all the time...

That article is way too long for me to read right now... But if its true then I guess im gravy b/c my middle finger is about 3/4 of an inch longer then the other fingers...

^^ I'll save you the trouble; there's absolutely no mention of fingers. :-)

It's extremely unlikely there could be a direction connection (where your serotonin transporter genes affected how long your fingers grow.) There are 'gene linkages', which is simply when two genes are on the same chromosome, so when a person has X gene they usually have Y gene as well, but it's a matter of tendencies, not absolutes. (So if there's a linkage, you could say that people with trait X are more likely to also have trait Y.)

Still, in the absence of new information, I have to believe this mystery magazine article was either misunderstood or just full of crap from the start.

Misunderstood it was not, full of crap, possibly.
I seem to have thrown away the paper, would be interesting to look at their sources. Ill try to take a sneak peak at it somewhere.

This whole thing sounds suspiciously like "I have a long penis and therefore have resilient genes" ;)
