Neurontin (Gabapentin) dose question.

I am getting prescribed 900mg of gaba a day and it is really really working out for me amazingly but i feel it works alot better when i take the 3 300mg capsules at once. IM not looking for a high but it seems that dose works perfectly. Now i was wondering if it is "going overboard" to ask my doc to script me the extra amount. Im not sure how much gaba one can be prescribed and it to be considered a normal dose, so would 1800mg per dose be asking too much? I could have sworn i heard people on really high doses of it that were prescribed to them...so Im hoping it mite work out.

Dr's seem to hand this stuff out like candy..or stickers..or whatever it is that those
dr. ppl hand out besides drugs.
I think I'm about to break a rule..I don't think we're supposed to talk about how to get your doctor to give you anything..
but my suggestion would be just to say the scripted dose is only slightly helping and allow your dr. to get
there on their own. I wouldn't ask for a specific dosage to be rx'd.

If you can afford it / have good insurance - ask about Pregabalin / Lyrica. It's the "next generation" and a bit more effective.

I started at 100mg x3 / day, and got bumped to 450mg/day (150x3), and it makes a HUGE difference in my back pain and general anxiety. For me it's truly effective. I MAY try to go to 600mg/day to see if there is more improvement to be had, but only to experiment. If no change, or weirdness starts, I'll back down to 450mg/day.

Honestly, last time I spoke to my Dr's receptionist about my Lyrica, she just asked me if I wanted to get the max (900mg/day) to which I kinda chuckled and politely said "no thanks, I'll just go for a 50% increase today and see if it helps out, thank you."

Just be honest mate, you'll get the help you need. If your current doctor isn't suiting your needs, you have every right to seek out alternatives (ie different doc, make sure they're under your health policy though!).
 
Well the thing is im useing the neurontin for the off label purposes. It makes me energetic, makes my social anxiety dissapear, IM ALWAYS CLEANINGON IT, it makes me see things like clothes on the floor that have been there for a day and think "why the fuck did you not pick those up you lazy shit". stuff like that. And as far as lyrica ive heard its a disaster when it comes to people haveing the rite insurance for it. My buddy got a script and they told him it was going to be *snip*. He said fuck u very much and walked out. BTW IN NO WAY AM I TRYING TO GET HIGH SO MODS PLEASE LEAVE THIS OPEN IF YOU CAN, THANKS.

Don't worry buddy, I'm not gonna can ya.

The deal with Neurontin though, is that doctors write daily dosing Rx's for everyone different it seems. Some will be 400mg x3 / day, or 1200mg x1 / day. If you're doing it on your own, you're just going to have to stay as low as possible and experiment. I believe the max daily is 3600mg, but please don't quote me on that.

There are a LOT of other threads on this though, including dosing. Have a gander w/ our new fancy google search bar.

Edit: I think the "why didn't I just do this before?" bit is anxiety. Sure as hell is for me. I sit in my room nearly 24/7, if not, I'm in the garage working on a project. Guess having a car of my own would help..
 
I was previously scripted Lyrica 300mg x3 daily then they switched me over to gabapentin 300mg x3 daily, due to issues with my insurance covering the Lyrica. It's a notoriously expensive drug w/o any coverage.

I don't think asking to step up to a larger gabapentin dosage would be much of a problem. Be honest with your doc, tell him it would be a more effective dosage to manage your social anxiety issues and that the current dosage is not working. I am about to ask my Suboxone doc the same request, as I am on the same gaba dosage as you and I definitely agree.

I can't wait until they come out with generic pregabalin! Lyrica is much more effective IME.
 
Lyrica IS bloody expensive. Thank whoever is up there for letting my insurance take off like 85% of the cost.
 
Does lyrica have the same off label mental effects that gabapentin has? Or is it just that each persons diff. and it mite make some sleepy and some stimulated. Ive heard lyrica was more sedating, less mental. I mean what is the actual difference between lyrica and gaba chemically? Are they that much different?
 
I definitely notice I'm sleepier, but that's a-ok by me as I usually can't sleep for crap..

I have never been Rx'd / tried gabapentin.
 
Idk maybe you should give it a try sometime, I mean that is only if you want to experience the mental effects. In my opinion it is one of the more interesting drugs ive ever done. Helps you in countless ways...if you take enough that is. Also when i was first prescribed it about 2 years ago i took 300mg before bed and six out of seven nights i would lucid dream. It got to the point where i would want to take one and go to sleep just for the fun of it, during the day when im was supposed to be doing productive shit haha.
 
Well I have pregabalin / Lyrica instead - just what my doc put me on straight away. I was never introduced to gabapentin. As pregab is the "younger" of the two, it makes sense to me.

I've heard lyrica is too..
but I'm not loaded like that poster above me..so I wouldn't know.

So i got an appointment in 1 hr. Rite now im on a script of 1 300mg gaba twice a day. Would it be asking too much if i suggested for him to move me up to 900 in the am and 900 in the pm? Or is that too much
 
Ah no deep pockets here; good family insurance! It's like 80% off of normal... CRAZY how much Pregab is... I wouldn't be on it if it wasn't covered.
 
OK id say it went well...got bumped up 2 600mg 3 times a day plus a bonus script of xanax .5mg #42....i love my doc.
