What are the negative effects of opiates? From my experience they seem to be the perfect drug (lolz); no hang over, long lasting, clear headed high, etc...

With all other drugs people always talk of negative effects, for example people say weed can cause a lack motivation and it can bring on mental disorders.

just wait... its hard to do use once a week if you have a supply by far the biggest negative of opiates is how addictive they are. But to your question I guess in some way as long as you don't take too much their aren't any negative effects. But I find it hard to wake up the next day after a few hydros.

Sorry forgot to add this... if you do get addicted you will see ALL the negatives of opiates don't worry

I have chronic pain in my back and have been on painkillers or two years. I have been on everything from OxyContin's, Vicodin,Lorcet, oxycodone, and Percocet. All of the above with the exception of OxyContin's have acetaminophen in them. Acetaminophen in large doses is and over a six-month period of time can cause liver damage. So when you take a Percocet that is labeled 10/350 it is 10 mg of opiates and 350 mg of acetaminophen so if you take three Percocet today you're actually consuming 1050 mg of acetaminophen which is very harmful for your liver. You will not notice it until it's too late liver failure comes on suddenly and without any symptoms. I would deftly not recommend snorting OxyContin's. OxyContin is a time release drug. By snorting it you're getting 12 hours worth of meds in 15 minutes. I guess I don't have to tell you that it can kill you. And once again it's hit or miss. Some people can snort OxyContin's and have no ill side effects. Other people who snorted once have dropped dead. But out of all the painkillers I've mentioned above. OxyContin's and oxycodone are one of the safest because they do not contain any acetaminophen. As of right now I take 1-12 hour OxyContin and two Percocet a day, and at night I take 30 mg of morphine to help me sleep. This has pretty much been the norm for me for the past eight months. I almost consider myself an expert on painkillers, since I've been on for two years. I would gladly give up taking painkillers if a doctor could find out what's wrong with me and fix it. To be perfectly honest and not to be a dick, but it's people like you that use painkillers recreationally that make it so hard for me to get them legally. I have to go to my doctor once every two weeks to get my painkillers refill because of the new DEA laws regarding OxyContin's. There was a time when a doctor can prescribe OxyContin and give you three refills. But under the new law no refills are allowed on drugs like OxyContin. My doctor charges me $200 a visit and my painkillers are $170 every two weeks.
So every month I had to spend $720 just to stay out of pain. And I have no medical insurance.

Opiates are pretty gentle on the body.

Unless you OD (in which case depressed breathing will be a problem) you really won't cause any harm to yourself with moderate use.

Mentally, you can have some problems after awhile. Usually these problems will just be an addiction to the drugs.

body negatives: constipation, muscle weekness, chest depression, muscle spasms, dehydration, urinary contraction, muscle cramps, fatigue, lack of motivation in some.

im not sure what cloudy is talking about as opiates are not "gentle on the body" by any means, continuous use can maximize all of the above by 10

the mental side of opiates is the worst IMO and IME

oh yeah not to mention the lung, live, and kidney problems that can occur.

Irritability. Price, addiction, withdrawal. It is far from the perfect drug.

That sums it up it is far from "Perfect" but its just so good once a week turns in to 2 days on the weekend to what the hell im stressed out I will do a few oxys to doing it everyday.so just be careful.

Yes, opiates are the perfect drug, hence the most addictive, and therefore, professor, the most dangerous. thats why oxycodone is my DOC =]

First of all, you cant claim that acetaminophen is a downside to opiates in general. It is put there by drug manufacturers and has nothing to do with the actual side effects caused by opiates.

I don't even feel like responding to the rest of your post.. this is OD and your post really seems like it belongs somewhere else.

Yea I get where ya guys are coming from.

As for the comment that people like me make it difficult for you to acquire meds, I've only bought pills off the street 2 times. Both times it was for percocets though.

I got a script for 30 dilaudid 2mg, but that was due to a very bad situation.

So if I were to use OTC codeine, once a week for six months my liver would be in danger? Why don't they couple ibuprofen and codeine here :p
Using OTC codiene once a week would not put your liver in danger, but you should look into doing a cold water extraction on the pills if they contain a lot of tylenol. It's easy and free.

Most organic and semi-synthetic opioid drugs are relatively safe if you don't overdose. Opiates aren't neurotoxic and they won't harm any of your organs on their own. Most opiate related liver damage is caused by APAP poisoning, not directly from an opiate. Demerol does have a hepatoxic metabolite.

Some negative side effects from opiates:
constipation (can be very seriously bad for your health, take a fiber supplement)
histamine reaction
irritability
depression
etc.. see above posts..

And of course if you use regularly it will cause down-regulation of your brain's opioid receptors which can lead to some nasty withdrawal effects when you stop using abruptly.

If I use once a week (never IV), maybe snort a few dillies or parachute some oxy, am I doing harm to my body / how can i minimize the damage?

Youre going to have to be more specific.

Long lasting? Thats subjective and dependent upon the drug. Heroin or morphine lasts 7 - 8 hours (IV) while fentanyl (oral or IV) lasts 1 - 3.

No hangover? Have you ever taken a high dose of...any opiate, really? Headache, constant puking, and cold sweats -- while not addicted -- in the morning I would consider a hangover.

Clear headed? Have you ever tried to do something productive while nodding out? Its almost impossible to do anything besides drool on yourself and mumble non-sense incoherently.

But the real question your asking is will once a week use do you harm. The basic answer is: No. Opiates are relatively easy on the body. Practically nothing in the body is harmed by occasional (even daily) use of opiates. As sonic said, though, there are negative side effects. Most are minor and can be avoided, but they are there none-the-less.

They are, however, NOT the perfect drugs. You cant just say "not counting addiction" because thats a huge part of opiates.

opiates have little downside when used that rarely. it those small amounts you may just experience; constipation, itchiness, difficulty urinating (in larger doses), difficulty sleeping in some opiates, nausea and skin may appear red (go's along with itching). all of these are short term side effects that will go away with the high or can be prevented with an antihistamine or some tums (constipation in some people may last a couple days but usually not if needed fiber will reverse the effects)

false. Even using heroin one day I could feel a negative effect in how I perceived my body (ie more painful).

Is that something the majority of users experience? Ive never heard of something like that happening, but to be honest, Im not even 100% sure what you mean.

Studies have been done in the UK that show regulated daily injections of heroin have increased test subjects life span. What cloudyhaze meant (I think) is that there is no organ/brain damage caused by opiates.

How you perceive pain is most likely caused by down-regulation of dopamine receptors. Its not heroin damaging anything specific in your body besides the receptors.

Could you clarify what you mean for me, please?

i believe what they are trying to say is their body pain/aches were amplified its a fairly common side effect but i have never heard of someone experiencing it from one single dose of an opiate unless maybe it was a rather large dose, even still news to me.

That would make sense for a user who uses heroin frequently. I think it would take a long time to get to that point with once a week use (if they ever got to that point at all.)

Ive been using heroin and other opiates for 4+ years (95% of the time heroin), the last year being about 4 - 6 times a month since Im on suboxone, and the rest of those years being everyday. I can say that I do not experience what s_s is talking about. Im not more sensitive to pain and I dont perceive my body differently.

I may be confused about what he means though, thats why Id like him to clarify for me, but thanks for trying, dank.

Opiates do not kill your liver. APAP in pills that have opiates in them will kill your liver, but opiates alone will not.
