Negative side effects - Hallucinogens

Hi all, new to the site, what's up?

So after getting into a discussion in a thread on another site debating the side effects of hallucinogens, I was told to come here to gain some more knowledge about these substances. Essentially, the question I'm asking all of you is - Have you experienced any negative physical or mental side effects due to any amount of use of any hallucinogenic drug? These can be short or long term and please include any side effects that may have resulted from things like being in the wrong location, taking too much, etc.

You're an idiot, Radic. The only "negative side effect" is a bad trip. You seemed to really enjoy the article I posted on H3F about my acid trip. Well, there you go. That's the only bad effect. The insite and wealth of knowledge that some psychs can produce for you are unfathomably incredible. Some psychs like the 2Cs don't really do anything for you in terms of insite, but it is still a very humbling expierence and you will definitely find more appreciation for the things around you. You are asking an awful question. Do research before posting.

Hey, you don't have to be mean to him just because he didn't search, he's clearly new to the site and might not have known. Give him the benefit of the doubt, or at least just a warning.... 8)

BTW, do you live under a bridge? Cuz you kinda be trollin.

Calm down bro, and stop romanticizing psychedelics at the expense of safety and balanced discussion.

True, one of the few negative side effects of most "classic psychedelics" is a bad trip. But keep in mind many people have suffered lasting psychological effects from "trainwreck" experiences. It's usually stuff that can be worked through however.

There's lots of precautions that can be taken, having a controlled setting, being modest with your dosage. Those really traumatic experiences are pretty damn rare and usually avoidable (as in they don't really just randomly occur unprovoked).

Also, even lots of profound positive trips can lead some people to "lose the plot" a little bit. It's a very exciting world to get into and it's easy to get a little obsessive for some people. It's not exactly the end of the world but people including myself don't like for their world to revolve around any chemical.

i honestly think that you wont really have a bad exp on psychs if you go into it with the right mind set. if you go into it thinking your going to have a good time... you will IMO. a "bad trip" actually is not one, its a learning exp.

Don't call someone an idiot for asking a question, and don't offer a wrong answer either. The fact is, psychedelics do have negative side effects, just like ALL drugs. Saying they don't is ignorant, and grouping them all together is ignorant too, different psychedelics have different negative side effects, some minor, some more serious.

For example, there are concerns about 2Cs producing free radicals - these concerns do not apply to, for example, tryptamines though. Also, most psychedelics produce vasoconstriction - which while in the amounts produced by most psychedelics is safe, can be dangerous in excess, or when consuming certain potent vasoconstrictor psychedelics like Bromo-DragonFLY or LSA.

There are also plenty of side effects that aren't exactly worrying in the long run or anything, but that can make an experience unpleasant, for example nausea and bodyload.

Then there are psychological side effects, these are usually temporary, in the form of negative thoughts during a trip, leading to a bad trip, however overuse of psychedelics, misuse, or using them with existing mental issues can lead to long term/permanent psychological problems.

That's a common urban legend, it doesn't have any truth in it.

Anyway, definitely check out the links solistus provided, those are some of the main concerns with psychedelics so those should definitely help.
 
I'd say the worst side effect psychedelics can have is not while you're on them. But the potential for social alienation. After using alot of psychedelics, some people can completely reject alot of things about society (don't blame ya - theres alot of fucked up things in the world).

Some (most?) people can take what they've 'seen' and 'realised' on a trip and use this new-found perspective to make their lives better/more positive. While others can find themselves unable to relate to the 'average' (hate to use that word) person and feeling out of place amongst the world. Hard to explain but I'm sure most of you will understand what I'm talking about.
