needles, a couple quick questions

How do I ask at the pharmacy so I don't sound like I am trying to do something other than inject insulin into myself? Also, how much does a package of needles go for on average? they come in 5 packs or what? Just a couple quick questions so I don't know everything about the product before I go in. Thanks.

I had to travel TWO hours to buy some needles the other day, as in my state you need a prescription. So as long as your state is cool then they shouldnt give you any problems. I just asked for a 10 pack of 1ml insulin syringes, I was all ready to go into a story about my aunt & act clueless ,but no need, it was cool.
I did have to sign a list though, not a problem.
Oh they come in 10 packs & at the CVS in NYC they said that that cant sell more than that at one time.
I guess it's pretty obvious that you should dress resonably 'straight'. Good luck.
 
yeah needles can be a bit tricky to get.. I stick with the BD29 gauge 1cc ultrafines and nothing else. If you go in decked out in kandee and neon blue hair chances are you may not get them.... my advice: Have a girl buy em' - always works for me

As for buying rigs - it can be tricky, a lot of states have now passed laws requiring you have a prescription to buy syringes .. if this is the case, you will have to find a needle exchange or find a friend with a legit need for them...

In New York the list I had to sign just required a sinituure & a date, so I just scribbled something down, simple!
 
In Kansas all you have to do is fill out some dumb little card. But then again who lives in ks? :)
 
Find a diabetic. I have to shoot insulin daily and all my IV crazed friends hit me up for needles, which I trade for other goodies. I've also heard that you can purchase them online, although I'm sure they are more $$.
 
hey well i dont know if it is in your state, but i live in philly and we have a thing called needle exchange...and on each day its at a different day, you bring your old needles and they give you a new one for every old one. its pretty cool so you dont have to buy them and they give you a card saying its legal for you to cary syrnges in the city of philadelphia so i dont have to worry about the cops...go to aol keyword "needle exchange" and see if they have anything in your state.
 
Lots of pharmacies blatantly LIE about needle laws in the state.
Here is a good example:
One day I went to CVS and purchased a 10 pack of needles. The next day I went to purchase another pack for a friend. A different woman was at the counter and she told me I needed some sort of insulin ID card and it was the state law. I went a week later and bought a box of 100 and the guy even forgot to make me fill out the needle registry.
It seems like for the most part that it's up to the discretion of the person behind the pharm counter as to whether or not you can purchase needles.
There are two good techniques. Either you're buying them for someone else or you're buying them for yourself.
If you're buying them for "someone else" then go into the store with a list of items. Get a little basket and put some items in it. Use good handwriting so it looks like the list was written by a parent. On the list have "BD 29 gauge ultra-fine tip needles 1CC" and show it to the person behind the counter. Occassionally they will tell you that the person who needs the needles needs to make the purchase, though. At any rate, if you get the needles this way, simply walk back and return all the other items you picked up and walk out with only the needles you paid for.
The other technique is to say you use insulin. Often they will simply ask you what brand you use. Say Novolin. You use 34 units in the morning and sometimes 12 at night as needed. If they ask about insurance simply say "it's a long story and it's just easier for me to buy the syringes out of pocket and just use the insurance for the medicine". Act confident. Pull out your ID while you are asking for the syringes as if you've done this 100 times before and you know they're going to look at your ID. They will probably have you sign a registry. It doesn't matter. Nobody looks at it. There aren't needle detectives that go compare sloppy signatures to a database of registered insulin users in the state that come and bust you. Just look clean cut and don't come in high on anything.
It's really simple. And if you don't have luck at one store, just try another one.
The only one I would avoid hands down is Walgreen's. They're bitches about all of their policies involving narcotic drugs and in this case paraphenilia and I can almost guarantee you they will give you a really hard time.
 
i tried buying syringes in hollywood for a while before i realized they had probably heard all the stories a million times. eventually i just went to glendale (moderate sized city a few miles away) and picked up some with no problems. i think it's probably more difficult getting them in a big city than it is in a suburb type area. there was a post that i can't find now that said tell them your uncle/mother/father whatever needs them because he has MS and takes betaseron. i think the post said people order betaseron by mail and pharmacies don't carry it, so they can't check on the computer. plus they probably rarely hear that story so they will assume you are being truthful.

avoid Walgreens? no way. after i struck out at Eckerds and Kroger would only sell me a ten pack and make snide comments like "you know these have all been used before, right? you better clean them," i made my boyfried try once at walgreens and they sold him a 100 box. no ID, no hassle. he just bought some shaving cream and toothpaste with it. i'm in TX.
