Needle Gauge

So I have always used 28s. Certainly wouldn't want to go bigger. How small can you get them? What is the disadvantage to like 29s?

the only problem with the higher gauge needles if for them to hook at the end, possibly damaging the vein, but if you use a clean sharp each time, you shouldnt have any problems.

Inhale hit the nail right on the head. Smaller needles provide less trauma to the vein, but they dull VERY fast, using them more than once can be dangerous... Not that you should use a needle more than once anyway, but many people do. 28s are just fine. I personally use 29 gauge needles, and have never used anything bigger... They work just fine.

alright, I know this is a dumb question but bear with me....
how are needles sized? do smaller needles have a larger number or a smaller number (e.g. is a guage 28 needle larger or smaller than a 30 gauge needle?)?

The higher the gauge the smaller the needle.

Just remember; it's just like piercing gauges.
If you have a 14 going through your nipple, you're normal.
If you have a 0 going through your nipple, you're a freak.
Now, just add 15 to the gauge and replace "nipple" with "arm/leg/eyeball/ass/etc."

Do lower gauge needles let you get a more intense rush? I mean I know you can push fluid out of them faster but is this really ever an issue in practice?
Just out of curiosity how does gauge translate to real units? Is a 28 gauge needle mean that the width (external/internal?) of the needles is a certain number of mm? Is this the same as gauge for wire?

Many people have made many valid points....
To be clear - the SMALLER THE NUMBER the LARGER THE NEEDLE .... this was covered in the injection FAQ ...
Now, you should NEVER USE A NEEDLE MORE THEN ONCE - of course this is easier said then done, but I will NEVER use a needle more the TEO TIMES (MAYBE 3) and I have NO MARKS after several thouand injections ...
Yet another valid point - the highr the gauge (smaller the needle) the quicker it is to dull, and of course whebn yer dealing with a 30g needle it take a little longer to empty the barrel into yer vein ... also, with a 30g neeldee (even 29g) some fluids are TO THICK TO DRAW UP - this can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it... when I cooked my heoin I always liked it as thick as possible - it wouldnt harm nme as it would disapate in my blood, but sometimes it was so think I couldnt get it drawn up a 30g syringe ...
I only use TWO TYPES of syringes - B&D 29g 'Ultra Fine' (with the long needle) or for some reason I like these ned B&D 27g syringes withthe detachable needle - the benifit is you can get one syringe for like .25 then buy needles - 100 for only $4.78 .. I dont know why I like these so much, I guess it;s a flashback to my hospital days... the downside is that its not just the NEEDLE you want to disposeof each time, but the rug too - gotta get rid of bacteria!
Whats the smallest? I BELIEVE it's 32g - used in dentistry .. I only know this because I asked what gauge was being used for some local and he said "32" ... I have never seen them elsewhere but I couldnt see myself liking them....
Also, I have used just about every brand out there - sorry, Becton and Dickson makes the BEST SYRINGE! In fact, this gives me an idea for a new thread!
