What is the maximum dose of Acetaminophen within a couple of hours and why do they put that in hydrocodone among other drugs??

4 grams is the maximum dose per day if you're taking it every day, 5 grams otherwise. Do a cold water extraction if you're worried.

It's in hydrocodone pills becasue it's a painkiller and, suprisingly enough, the pills are designed for pain relief and not (as commonly thought) getting fucked up.

Why you think? Because it's a painkiller. It also makes IV use a gigantic pain in the ass. I'm sure they don't mind.

but hydrocodone is a painkiller its stronger right so why put the other ingredient in the pill???Please explain this to me in detail.

Because two pain killers relieve pain better than one, and hydro and apap fight pain in completely different ways. Pain relief isn't totally linked to recreational potential.

It serves two purposes:

1. Increases the pain killing effects of the Hydrocodone
2. To prevent abuse and fall under its controlled substance category (any narcotic without acetaminophen is Schedule II)

No its not. Ibuprofen and Naproxen are NSAIDs... APAP doesn't have anti-inflammatory properties to it.


And like everyone else said. Pain is complicated and involves more than one mechanism. By adding the APAP, you get a broader spectrum of pain relief without adding much risk.

I don't think there is a maximum single dose just as long as it doesn't exceed 4000mg in a 24 hour period.

I reached 2 grams of apap and I don't even take all that much I think that's a problem if someone has alot of pain but their doctor will only prescibe hydrocodone with apap in it.

That's between the doctor and the patient.

The FDA recently limited the amount of APAP allowed in combination products for that very reason, actually.

Some may say its only in there to boost the effects but it is also indeed specifically put in there for abuse purposes. I was watching something on CBS about that.

I don't like to ever take more than 3grams a day we shouldn't have so much Acetaminophen in with hydrocodone.
