Hello friends.

A friend of mine is oxy addict. Extremely high doses. He got enough oxyneo where he wants to give a shot at quitting. His worst problem when quitting is depression.

He got 400 30mg pills of oxyneo. Currently he takes 120-150 mg 2 times a day.

Does anyone have a good schedule how he can taper off because he doesnt know. The reason he needs to get off of them fast if he is having legal issues and might spend some times behind bars. He has been on it for a year and cold Turkey would destroy him.

Also, his shrink gives him 60 mg of oxycodone per day. Not enough if he ends up in jail. If he told his doctor he has been secretly abusing, would a doctor increase his dose and help him out to wean off (cannot know about the 400 pills) or would he report him, especially the guy is having custody of his child and still fighting for it.

PS, His highs are over. He takes cuz his body needs it.

When my friend tapered, he just took as little as possible each dose.. Just to keep the withdrawals to a minimum, then continued to decrease the doses.. Took him one full week and and then a week of being uncomfortable and depressed, but not sick. He never even missed work.

newin419,

What was his dose prior to starting taper?

PS. Jail is not guaranteed but he an issues with a cabbie turned into lawsuit. No one got hit but he says his kids got scared.

If you are looking to avoid serious W/D symptoms, that kinda of taper could take a very long time (6-12 months?). You'll want professional help for that.

If you tell the Psych about it depends. I would be highly skeptical that he/she would increase a dose. That prescribing behavior can put the MD's license in jeopardy, particularly in states whose Medical Boards like to pursue Pain Patient cases. He/She may cut you off cold turkey or maintain and work with you. Again really depends on the doctor.

Would a more milder opiate like codiene help as combined with 60mg ox ? Then taper down ox n end up on codiene ? Etc...
