While the use of 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan or simple tryptophan is definitely going to increase serotonin supply and possibly alleviate some of the suffering - it probably does not treat the actual neurotoxic effects of MDMA.
And it may increase the risk of Serotonin Syndrome for several days post-roll - especially in bad reactions like yours.
After 3-4 days, the risk should be diminished enough to take it - but be warned that for me it caused an INCREASE in anxiety in the early stages of my recovery. I didn't try it again until many months later, and I was then amazed at how relaxing it was.
MDMA itself is out of your system within 3-5 days, but the nasty metabolites - which may cause some of the toxicity on their own - stick around for up to a week!
In my opinion there are only a few strategies to help speed up the elimination of these metabolites.
Take Piracetam, which increases permeability of cell membranes in the brain.
It is very safe and is available online without Rx, or at select nutritional stores.
It can cause mild anxiety or a desire to argue for a few hours, but after this it transitions into a flury of words.
It is very energizing in a non-toxic way. It has been used in elderly patients suffering from stroke and children with traumatic brain injuries....and yes it improves cognitive function.
Some college students use it as a safe alternative to stimulants for studying, and they tend to like it a LOT.
Some MDMA users LOVE piracetam, as it brings back the euphoria that they can no longer achieve with MDMA.
I firmly believe it can help you, but it not a cure for damage that has already occurred.
Its true value is in preventing further damage from occurring during these next few days.
Eating LOTS of fruits is a VERY good idea.
Anti-oxidants will help the brain defend itself - Vit C, Alpha Lipoic, turmeric, and throw fish oil in there.
Finally, EXERCISE.
This increases a nerve growth factor in the brain known as BDNF.
This protein stimulates the release of stem cells!
But it also increases the plasticity and resprouting of serotonin axons from the cell body. :D
Nothing - AT ALL - compares to the power of EXERCISE for healing the brain.
From strokes, to gunshots, to massive drug recoveries - regular exercise helps the brain rebuild itself.
It makes sense that it is your BEST bet at preventing further toxicity RIGHT NOW.
If you can keep down watermelon - you can do a few pushups or jog.
Only ten minutes of minor effort would make a difference. Just do what you can.
Other than exercise and anti-oxidants....piracetam is the only well-known coping strategy.
5-HTP is safeish after a few more days, but it is only serving to increase serotonin supply.
Such a binge has resulted in a MAJOR loss of serotonin supply, as well as some pruning of higher axons.
If you want to TRY it - go with plain tryptophan not 5-HTP.
It is safer for the liver and the heart, and is less likely to shock your brain because it converts to serotonin more slowly.
When you start taking it - take SMALL doses.
That means open up the capsule and pour out more than HALF of the dose.
Try that FIRST and wait at least two hours.
If you feel OK, take another HALF.
Don't take anymore for over 12 hours, preferably longer.
If all goes well, you can try again...but daily use is not advised past the first 5-7 days.
You can only increase serotonin in the brain SO quickly - because MDMA inactivates the enzyme that synthesizes it!
Tryptophan hydrolase takes 1-3 months to rebuild itself TOO - so taking tryptophan or 5-HTP will only work if some TPH enzyme is still active. You probably don't have much...
Remember - exercise is king of ALL strategies...especially when damage has occurred.
Most brain-injury patients are forced to begin strenuous exercise IMMEDIATELY after they are stable.
And you should consider the possibility that you have actually hurt your brain.
But you will still be ok - the brain is resilient.
Just treat yours VERY kindly, beginning now.
Good luck.
