At the moment my sister is taking 15-10 percs a day. She has had multiple surgeries and is in a lot of pain almost all of the time. She is in so much pain that she usually runs out of her meds before the end of the month, she hates going in early because she thinks it maks her look like an addict which she is not. She just wants to get the relief she needs. Our doctor is really an awesome guy but he honestly is a little opiate nieve i think but i want my sister to stop taking that many percs. She is nearly reaching her apap limit everyday and its HORRIBLE on her liver.

She mostly has abdominal pain from getting her uteras removed and her gal bladder. She says her hips hurt all of the time as well (she has had 3 kids) and at night she has really bad rls in her arms.

So, im asking you blue lighter for your advise on what she should get. I was thinking maybe fent patches that way she wouldnt be running out every month and wouldnt have to worry about pills. Would that help with the rls? I was also thinking instead of the oxycodone/apap maybe getting an oxycodone/hydrocloride or methadone for the day and something at night for breakthrough?

If you arent experienced with any of this please dont comment, i dont want this thread getting cluttered with bs posts. I need some real insite because i love my sister dearly and i want her to get the best relief possible. She is constantly stressed with her job and kids and the last thing she needs to worry about is meds. Thanks in advance, hopefully we can come up with something.

Hydromorph contin if u live in canada.

Roxi 30's if u live in the u.s

if shes takin 12 percs a day. then if she took 3-4 roxis a day that would prolly cover her pain.

no oxies though they are trash even for someone who is taking them the right way.

Any discussion here will be purely speculative, you really need to work with your doctor to find the right course of treatment. She probably needs short-term treatment with an ER oxycodone preparation until she heals from the surgeries. RLS would be better treated with other meds most likely.

Fentanyl, methadone, etc is all waaay overkill for post-surgical pain if she's out of the hospital. If it's been more than a week or so since the surgeries, something weird is going on because there should not be that level of pain. If her doc isn't exploring this, get her to another doc for a second opinion.

For the record this is not post op, she has had over 6 surgeries in the past year due to complications and she will likely be in pain for the rest of her life.

I dont want her to go overkill with stronger oxys i just want her to get on something that wont run out before the end of the month and will keep her feeling ok.

The thing about the the doc is he isnt very knowledgable about pain treatment and my sister cant afford to see anybody else. He is our family doctor and wants the best for us and he is cheap. We have been seeing him over 10 years and he is willing to do anything for us, im just looking for people who are experienced with this meds and what gives the best relief.

Why not do a google search for an online chronic pain or pain management forum. There's one .org that seems to have a good bunch of folks from what i read on their site awhile back...

She probably needs an ER or CR med and likely an IR med for breakthrough pain...it will depend on her diagnosis tho.

honestly for real pain alot of patients find fent patches to be the best. I think fent patches with some percs for BT pain is a really good regimin for pain management.

talk to a doctor...we are not certified to help you with this sort of problem....we can only speculate

Keep comments to yourself.

are you talking to me?...because if you are, that "keep comments to yourself" post doesnt apply to me....

the advice I gave was probably the best advice you have gotten yet. It also happens to be the truth.

And by the way ...I AM experienced with this subject...VERY experienced...but THAT DOES NOT MAKE ME A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL...thereofore I am in no position to be giving you advice on pain medication for medical issues. If what you wanted was a bunch of people, each with there own opinion and point of view to tell you what to do...then you came to the right place......but you shoudl say that in your original post.....dont ask for advice....ask for opinions from people who arent proffessionals

You should take your orginal post....and go to a doctor and show it too him/her.

That would be the correct/safe thing to do.....THAT is in the interest of harm reduction.

I mean, arent you going to have to go to a doctor in the end anyway?..no matter what these people on here are telling you to do?

Everyone is different and WE dont know your sister...therefore we cannot properly help you...it takes hands on work from an experienced medical professional to take care of this problem....its sad to think that you thought you could solve your sisters pain med problem by asking strangers online
...or have they changed the laws and you can go to the local corner store to pick up a box of fentanyl patches?

She doesnt have the money to see a different doctor. I realize a seeing a real pain managment doctor would be the best thing to do but thats not an option. Thats the whole reason why i posted here. I posted keep comments to yourself because i wanted to avoid ebattles. Im not trying to offend anyone here im just looking to find the best possible option for my sister. Please keep that in mind, i have seen you post here on bl and you contribute a lot to this forum and would rather not be on your badside, i just dont want to deal with the bs these forums usually produce.

I completely understand man...its just there is a flaw in your plan to help your sister.....in the end only a dotor can decide what to prescribe her...you cant go into the docs office and demand she gets fentanyl, or morphine, or whatever it is people on here tell you what to do...it doesnt work that way..and it might even get her kicked out of the doctors office for looking like a drug seeker.

I wasnt being rude or offensive or uncaring....I do feel sorry for your sisters situation....its just BL isnt the answer here.

And you say you want to talk to experienced people who can tell you what meds give the best relief??.....

Im experienced but I still cant tell you what med is best for syour sister because EVERyONE is different and you have to try different meds until you find the right one for YOU. Theres no secret medication thats the BEST out there.....different medication work in diferent ways and each person needs to find the med that works well for them...

...all WE can do is list all the pain meds we know of and then you can just pick randomly from there and go from one med to the next until one works out. But unfortunately, for some people, there is no medication that will take care of their pain. Its sad but true.

I applaud you for caring for your sister but in all honesty....the doctor knows best, and he holds the power....and if he cares for you guys as much as you say he does....he should be easy to talk to in regards to what medication you should try.

Sorry, we're not physicians nor are we a pain management forum. I'm gonna have to close this. Do a google search, you'll be able to find a better suited place to ask this question.
