need help enrolling / filling out FAFSA

Frankly with that kind of attitude, it probably is better if you keep out of college. Getting assigned two papers at once would just wreck you.
 
exactly. if you wanted to go to school, you'd be in school.

i know a girl with two kids (one with autism), taking care of her mother with Alzheimer's, and she managed to sign up for classes, attend classes, and do her work for her classes without getting all flustered. i hear people in class with their sob stories all the time; they manage to make it to sign up and register and show up.

if you want it badly enough, you'll MAKE IT HAPPEN. period end of.

if the FAFSA is the problem, go to the FINANCIAL AID office.

if registering is the problem, go to the REGISTRAR's office.

simple as. well... i guess if the school is the bogus U of Phoenix, then maybe that would be difficult considering they might not have an office you can readily go to. but regardless, there's a phone number or something you can contact to get in touch with the people who can help you.

BLUELIGHT shouldn't be your first -- nor your last -- stop for assistance with university issues.

Its that kind of competitive attitude that makes me not want to go to college in the first place. people playing the "i can and you can't" card. so i guess your an expert on who i am and what i can handle?

to some negative put down comments like that inspire people to achieve and prove others wrong, while for me it just makes me not want to try in the first place. i dont have to prove anything to you or anybody else. go ahead and feel good about that, im sure it helps with low self esteem putting others down.

and i love how everybody generalizes it so much to the point to where they portray it as, if i wanted to go to the local "uni" as it is trendy to say here, i could just fucking show up tomorrow and walk in and start taking classes. like its really so easy.

my brother does the same shit, "hey man, if you want to goto college, just go dude".........oh yeah sure. "just go". okay. right........
 
i am willing to bet you that you can walk into the registrar at your local community college and leave with a schedule.

have you actually tried doing anything other than sitting on your ass feeling sorry for yourself?

it really is that easy, tho... trust me -- they WANT you to go, because they want the money... so they'll make sure you get what you need to get enrolled.

now, you say it's too late for this semester. fine. you've got 2 months to fill out the FAFSA. if it's too complicated for you to do it online by yourself -- GO TO THE SCHOOL.

if the web registration for classes is too complicated to suss out yourself (and some systems are really convoluted, i'll give you that) -- GO TO THE SCHOOL. you've four month until summer sessions, and probably 8 months until next Fall.

if the school does not have offices in your area -- CALL THEIR OFFICES.

trust me when i say to you, they want you to enroll.

because all i've heard so far is wah-wah excuses, and nothing of real substance. so as far as i'm concerned, this thread is done. if all you want to do is whine and complain and not take the advice of people here, then you can do that on your own. masturbation is, after all, a solo project.

If you had a goal and actually wanted to do it, you'd find a way. I suspect you are doing it more because it's what you are "supposed to do" and that's not going to get you anywhere. Get a goal first.

being negative like this won't help your situation. it really can be that easy. if you make yourself think it's going to be this difficult then of course you're going to have a rough time of it. but i promise you if you just DO SOMETHING you'll find that it's not as difficult as you made it out to be.

it feels good to have some direction in life.. try it

There's the spirit.

I am 25, have fibromyalgia, and am working on my second degree. During my final semester (which was a ball-breaker), I worked two jobs, dealt with a myriad of health issues, and still managed to make it to class and graduate. I'm returning for a second degree so that I don't have to teach.

Also, if it's kids you're worried about, a lot of schools have child-care on site for parents taking classes. There are also schools that have adult-education programs, which offer more classes in the evenings, as well as classes on the weekend. Online classes, btw, are NOT a joke. They are sometimes harder than in person because YOU have to guide yourself through the coursework, usually with little or no help from classmates or teachers.

I'm not going to ramble though. Being self-defeatist about your situation will do as it entails: you will have to learn to deal and accept mediocrity for the rest of your life. If you're fine with that, carpe diem.

oh okay so everybody who doesnt have a fucking college degree is destined to live a mediorce life? that is exactly the kind of elitist im better than you cause i have a degree type of shit that turns me off to college in the first place.

just cause you have a degree, doesnt guarantee you success.

yeah okay so i can just walk down to the local UNIVERSITY (i know im not cool i dont say "uni") and walk in to any class and just start studying/learning/whatever. i mean come on, its not that easy. i just hate how everybody makes it out to be like its so easy to go to college that just anybody can show up and make it happen without running into problems/barriers/issues. its not that simple as everybody makes it out to be. and the fact that everybody says how easy it is, that i can "just go", etc......i find that all to be a round about way of just putting other people down who are struggling by making it seem like its so fucking easy that they end up feeling stupid/hopeless/frustrated/inferieor cause everybody keeps saying how easy it is yet they are having a hard time at it.

and just cause im not in college means i dont have any direction in life? oh okay. i didnt know college was the great validator of living a worthy life. i guess im simply destined to be a complete loser in my life in the eyes of everybody who has a college degree since not having or attempting one automatically lables you as not having any direction.

its all these kinda "omg its so easy" posts that frustrate the hell out of me and kill any motivation i might have since its not easy for me yet it is for everybody else.

yeah and i used to walk 23 miles to work everyday barefoot in the snow and there are starving children in africa.
 
Fucking wah... Woe is you. Enjoy being a secretary or waitress for the rest of your life. I know a degree doesn't guarantee success, but at least you have something to show for all the hard work... might work shit jobs, but the shit jobs pay better with a degree.

actually i don't have my degree. i'm going to finish it starting this fall. i ran into barriers and roadblocks myself.i haven't been in school since 05. no, it's not easy. but what is, besides doing nothing?

in a lot of employers' eyes it does label you as not having direction if you can't dedicate yourself to four years of higher learning. sorry. i deal with it myself. if you don't have equivalent experience OR a degree you're fucked. it's best to have at least one.

but yeah, what startripper said. have fun being so negative. it will get you far.

oh and btw, you get what YOU want to get out of college when you go. plenty of people go and get degrees by the skin of their teeth and don't learn anything. of course it doesn't guarantee success. only you can by effort. considering your attitude, it's probably best you don't go. you need to grow up a bit first.
 
Sounds like birthdaycake is more of a "do it for me" kind of person.

Seriously, all of these people have taken time out of their lives to give you advice - good advice at that. Then you retort with negativity and bitterness.

School is work. School can also be hard work. It's not a walk in the park. Some things are more difficult than others, and you will have to jump through hoops. But, by reading your replies here, you certainly don't seem like you should be going to college. If you have the kind of defeatist attitude that you are showing, what's going to happen when you get a "bad" grade? Are you going to rant to your teacher like you are here? 'Cause they don't care what you have going on in your personal life.
 
Birthdaycake, you're right in saying that getting into college is hard. You want to know what is even harder? Actually being in college and doing well in classes. If you're not prepared to do something hard, then college isn't for you. Actually, nothing productive would be for you in that case.

No, college isn't the only way to succeed in life. You can go to a trade school, or find another way to gain fullfilment. But what is it that you're doing right now that's making your life so great? You seem to want everything to be easy for you, but it never will be.

FYI, "uni" is slang for university in the U.K. and in Australia (the term "college" means something different).
