Need basic info on bong slides/bowls

So a friend who no longer smokes gave me his old bong, and like an idiot, I broke the bowl the second time I smoked it. Now I need to buy a new bowl for it, but I find myself lacking expertise in this area.
The bowl was one of those cheap ones that often come with lower-end bongs; dark grey glass--though it might have been clear, once--with a wide conical bowl and a thin handle, with a narrow downstem, all of one piece. The piece functions both as bowl and stem, such that when it is pulled out of the bong to clear, nothing is left in the water; the bong does not have a separate or build-in downstem. Both at the bottom of the stem, and where it meets the bowl, the stem measures about 9mm, nearest I can tell.
Anywho, I need to replace it, and I need to know what type of piece to replace it with. It's unclear precisely what I need from various online headshops--a bowl, a slide, a downstem, a diffuser? These terms seem to be used interchangeably for various but similar pieces, and I need to know what specifically I need to buy. I also need to know what size I should buy; it seems that 14.somethingmm is the most common size, but I presume if it measured at 9mm I would need 8.8mm, unless that measurement indicates something completely different than stem diameter..?
As you can see, I'm slightly lost, and would greatly appreciate some knowledgeable help.

9mm is generally for smaller bongs. You can buy replaces online at really good prices, you may need a slide that converts your down-step to the common 14mm... or you can look for your slide/bowl combo replacement piece, but you need to know the diam of your down-stem. You pretty much know enough already, it really ain't rock science.
