I have been searching the forums for days, but it is such a big place. I never found what I was looking for, and I apologize if this has been asked and answered before.

I have been prescribed Lortab 5/500 for a broken foot. I know too much Acetaminophen can be deadly, and that scares me. The bottle says I can take 1 tablet every 4-6 hours, but I am in a lot of pain. Can I take 2 tablets at once, or take a tablet earlier than 4 hours? I read a bottle of generic Tylenol and it says not to exceed 3,000mg in 24 hours.

I trust people's opinions here because I have been reading the forums for several years, and most people (and the mods) seem to know what they are talking about. :)

Again, I apologize if this has been addressed previously. I promise I looked, but maybe the pain is making me stupid. LOL

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!! I didn't want to call the pharmacy and ask them. :)

No problem...you could have, honestly. The pharmacy tends to give me the best information when I go in/call about interactions/drug questions, and if you call you don't have to tell them who you are either.

their job is to help answer your question about the drug you're calling about, not try to figure out your identity :)

That's probably true in all the other 49 states, but here in Florida, it's different. Seems this is the pill capital of the U.S., and they are really cracking down on RX's.

I thought that the FDA recently capped the maximum amount of acetaminophen in prescription pain killers at 325 mg? Maybe it hasn't gone into effect yet?

Ah, yeah, I'm in NY, but I still don't think they would ask for your identity...plus, its a low dose hydrocodone prescription for a broken foot, I don't think those are the kind of prescriptions they are after. And, afaik, you can still anonymously call a pharmacy to ask questions in Florida as well.

I don't know about that yet, I got a hydrocodone prescription not long ago that was 7.5/750...and, that's a damn shitload of APAP per pill.

You'll want to limit yourself to 3-4g of APAP per day and ~2g at once. Consuming alcohol or any other drug that is hard on your liver at the same time can compound the issue as well.

If your required opioid dosage is such that you are exceeding or regularly meeting these values, you can check out the Cold Water Extraction Mega Thread & FAQ v2.0.

As for speaking with a pharmacist so long as you aren't asking about anything illegal it shouldn't be a problem, and if they give you any grief you can simply call another. :)

If you can find a source on that feel free to post it in Drugs in the Media (article) or over in North and South American Drug Discussion. I think it would be an excellent topic.

Since I feel this is pretty well answered and there isn't much more to discussion I'm going to close it now. Feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns regarding the closure or anything else.
