Hey everyone,

Never thought I would need to start a harm reduction thread myself. But I am a user and I have run into a peculiar snag.

Long story short, last week I smoked about a half an 8 ball of meth, and stayed up for 7 days.
Strangely I have only gotten about 20 hours of sleep since then and it has been 3 days since that 7 day run.

So basically 20 hours of sleep in 10 days. Thats like what 2 hours a night?

What I want to know from you guys is. Can I die if I keep this up?

I have a friend that is coming through with another bag tonight. And Im concerned I havent slept enough.
I mean 3 more nights awake isnt bad but then Friday is my Birthday and I might binge again.

So how many hours do you need to sleep to stay alive? What is the longest you know that someone has stayed awake on meth?

You WILL eventually sleep whether you want to or not and no matter how much dope you do. When people say things like, "I stayed up three weeks on meth," they are talking out their ass. They may have done meth every day for three weeks, but at some point they slept, even if only little power naps. Eventually, the need for sleep will overpower the meth. I've fallen out a couple hours after shooting a half gram of powerful dope. I hadn't slept in about four or five days and my body just gave out. I woke up a few hours later and I was still high.

All that being said, you will not regret going ahead and laying it down. While you will eventually fall asleep no matter what, this may be days after you technically should have gone to sleep. Sleep deprivation psychosis is NOT fun and the physical distress of acute fatigue really sucks. Also, you're beginning a dangerous pattern or regular use. You wouldn't believe how easy it is wake up one day and realize that you've been doing dope almost every day for months. Eventually you can eat and sleep on it just fine... BUT you can't manage to stay awake or get from the bed to the bathroom without it. Meth addiction sucks. It doesn't take long before you truly need it to function.

I've found that when you're body is really fatigued even a tiny dose of a benzo (say .5mg of Xanax) will put you out for a few days... which you probably need at this point. Even benedryl could do it.

Eventually you have to come down. When you do you will immediately see things in a very different light and may be very glad you made the decision to come down, rather than being knocked out with IV Haldol in the ER after running down the street in nothing but your Levi's convinced you escaped from a basement where you were being held captive by a man who wanted to force you to rape a ten year-old girl on camera when you were, in fact, only shooting dope with a buddy for six straight days...

YES< this happened to me...

As i do not know any meth users i can only give you information that i have learned about staying awake for a long period of time.

The main problem with staying awake for a few days straight is an immediate damage to your eyes, the eyes need to be closed for them to rest properly, i was in the military myself and i had gone for as long as 2-3 weeks with as little as 2-3 hours of sleep per day but we were taught that we have to sleep or our eyes will start to lose sight, lose the ability to see different colors and such. your body can stay awake for many days with no immediate damage, your eyes can not.

I know its not allot of information but hope it helps a little.

This information was informative. From all of you. I am having a goofy time calibrating, some interestingly strange mental energy, and have been sleepless for a week.
But I have taken little naps, and Im thankful to my body and mind for that. I am having the time of my life right now, as it is my birthday, but people are piling on the cryst, like they love me or something. So Im just greatful to get some relief about this information you three have given me, to satiate any fears of loosing my mind, or loosing it all because I cant control this shit right now. Thanks guys.

I know I'm technically new here but any advice is better than no advice right? I myself never did meth but I have binge on crack. The longest I have ever started up is 4 days. As long as your eating and getting vital fluids into your system it should help. But a night off wouldn't hurt either. Just be careful.

It's highly unlikely that you'll die. Before that would happen, you would be completely miserable, out of touch with reality, paranoid to preposterous extremes, and jumping at the random objects flitting across your vision. Stim psychosis would lead to you being found out and committed or busted.

Awesome. Completely awesome. What an intriguing look into things.

This is one of the best responses I have ever read hahahaha!

But seriously, OP, don't do this again, your internal organs would definitely take damage from another bender like that again!!

hayyyyy buddy, happy birthday! look what i gotcha!
- yea, i know its a small package, but don't you worry your pretty little head - this tiny package could be the beginning of a new life!
a new addiction, an empty bank account, maybe a new (or no) job, a whole new set of friends....!

aw, don't thank me - I did it cuz it's your birthday AND I LOVE YA!!!

Damage only occurs when you are really sleepy and something keeps you awake by force, as in sleep depravation torture where they toss water at you and keep a light on you. If you don't feel like sleeping no damage occurs no matter how many nights you stay up.
