Ne1 ever had a Heroin overdose?

im honestly not sure if i have, when i was using oc, i had about 160mg in me this night, but i had done it about 2 hours before, i was smoking a blunt and all of a sudden i remember not being able to talk, could barely move, sweating so bad, i made it to the bathroom, but i couldnt even stand up. i have no idea what was going on. i thought maybe it was the trees, but i smoked more of the same shit the next day, nothing. but i dont really know what happened that night. as far as i know i wasn't on any other drugs (meaning i didn't take any, if i was, i was slipped them in a drink or something) and there was no alcohol involved. i was so scared i almost called 911 myself.

I've truely overdosed once.. I was on 8mg's of suboxone everyday for maintenance.. well needless to say.. one night I picked up 1.5 grams of chicago dope.. I started out first with a shot about what would be considered 4bags to first break through the buprenorphine.. I then banged a ridiculously huge shot.. next thing I knew I woke up on the floor immediately after the shot.. I had foam all over my face from my mouth.. but the problem was when I woke up I was still so far gone..
my body literally felt like I had the worst case of mono.. just aches and pains you can't understand.. I then proceeded to shoot a decent amount of suboxone and that pulled me out quick.. but physically it took 2-3 days to feel like a human again..
I have been an opiate addict for years and I've never experienced anything like it.. and it scared the shit out of me.. the needle practically broke off in my arm because I hit the floor with the needle never leaving my arm.. this was my first real wake up call.. and reality..sadly.. but much needed..

So is it true that if you're able to think to yourself "I might be ODing", you're not ODing? It appears that a lot of these people were found after passing out almost immediately. Whenever I do a lot of oxy and i start really really nodding, sometimes i think to myself "i hope i dont OD in my sleep" but then i tell myself that if i was going OD, i probably wouldn't be conscious.

Yup. Numerous times. 6 times unintentionally, 2 times intentionally... Such a strange but pleasant feeling. You do your shot, and your feeling good and all of sudden nothing. That's how it ends. Or at least that's how its supposed to end.

You end up either by the grace of God or because God wants to see you suffer longer, aware of the darkness around you as you hear your friends voice or your mothers voice calling your name from a distance. But you don't open your eyes or speak because your in a place you don't want to leave, your numb, warm, safe, free of life's bullshit. They keep calling at your name and you mumble something, trying to tell them to go away and leave you be. That one spark burns away the blanket covering you and suddenly you return to life, in a stupor, lips blue, head in the aether, spit on your face, not knowing what the fuck happened. But what you do remember is that feeling you had while you were in that place, that wonderful fucking feeling. That's a heroin overdose.

yeah clubbinguido you hit it dead on. If I had to go out, OD'ing on H would be the way to go. But thats kind of fucked up

I am an IV heroin user. Ive been using 4.5 years and until 2 months ago never od'd. I was shooting speedballs(Cocaine+heroin) cocaine increased the dose of heroin my system could take when the coke wore down i shot more heroin and since my system was on the verge of toxicity and didnt have anymore coke keeping me up i fell out. I did not need any medical assistance/narcan to be revived. I was with a friend I did a shot cleaned my needle capped it and started wrapping up everything and just fell over(was what i was told later on) I got a great rush from the heroin but after that i dont remember anything just woke up in bed 2 and a half hours later with the worst opiate hangover. My friend was there and he dragged me to my bed and put me in it. He watched me to make sure i kept breathing and 2 hours later i woke up.

Jesus dude.

1) why you wanna buy weed while doing that?
2)You're so fucking lucky you didnt kill or get killed

I'd do just about anything for some weed on an opiate, except maybe suck a dick.

if I smoke some weed and pop a few benadryls during my high, I'm guaranteed to nod even if i took a small ass dosage.

In my twenty plus years of heroin addiction,I've o.d. at least at least a score of times.I totally agree with clubbiguido. The numbness and not wanting to come back.I overdosed in N.Y. in the Port Authority bathroom.I faintly started to hearvoices telling me to fight or I woudn't come back.I opened my eyes and saw about 20 shiney black shoes around me.I shut my eyes and thought this is a nightmare, hoped it was,but then I came to and saw about a bunch of cops and e.m.t. all around me.One cop was holding my N.A. 30 day keychain and he looked sad.The cops didn't arrest me,they just told me to go back to meetings and try harder.

30 days clean? Longest I went is 20... Good for you bro.

i OD'd on black tar once. I remember every bit of it. i didn't need medical attention or narcan. It was not painful but very scary and unsettling.

Yes. Overdosed a couple times. No one was around for any of them. I was lucky to eventually wake up.

The worst time I was alone, been on Suboxone for a month, 32mg/day, wasn't doing shit for cravings. Skipped 3 days, bought $40 worth of brown powder, was starting to withdrawal with the constant and painful shitting, nausea, sweats, shaking, etc. Mixed up and shot. Stuck the needle in a glass of water to rinse it out, filled it up with water, then the rush hit, and kept on getting more and more intense. I remember taking a deep breath in, woke up 4 hours later on the floor with the glass of water on my back and a busted needle in my hand with water everywhere. I blacked out and knocked over the glass of water I was cleaning my fit with, on my way out of the chair I hit the desk I was sitting in front of very hard with my back, the edge of the desk scrapped a chunk of flesh off my shoulder blade through my t-shirt. When I woke up and cleaned everything up, I took off my wet shirt and on the back was a big yellow and reddish brown stain the shape of the wound on my back. For several days I had to wear an undershirt, as the puss and blood would seep through my shirt.

The amount used was not above average for a shot for me, and I assumed a dependancy on 32mg/day of Buprenorphine would make my tolerance nearly as high as it had been with Heroin. Was very wrong.

Overdosing alone is scary, and sad. I've noticed immediately I did too much after a shot before, and my last feeling was sadness. There was no one around to help me, or notice. Same thing when waking up from a survived solo OD. It's very depressing to clean up the mess, and think about how you could've died alone with nothing but a needle as a witness. What a scene for friends or family to find, too.

States are gradually opening up OTC Naloxone programs, where a brief training course and Naloxone nasal inhalers are given out to addicts to use on someone in case of OD. The pilot project proved very successful, down in South Carolina. This should be instituted everywhere. All you have to do is stick the tube in their nose and push the back end of the inhaler.
They should have been around sooner, so many deaths could've been prevented.

I've heard that being given a shot of Narcan while conscious is the most painful experience you could possibly go through. And yes, like the above poster mentioned, the person telling me this story said he was welcoming death because it hurt so badly.

If you got time, read this...

I tried to make a very detailed account of my overdose.

So yes, I have overdosed and had to be revived... twice now. And even though I do write all about it, yes, a shot of naloxone is unbelievably painful. My exact quote to my family and doctors was "You should have let me die!" I even think I went into shock, because despite the pain, eventually I felt peaceful, still feeling the pain, but no longer able to respond to it.

So yea, I dont recommend overdosing. Its not that fun.

Will: Yeah, that makes much more sense although I had wanted to add (I was pressed for time though) that how someone "feels" is entirely subjective. There is a very quantified physiological response in long term addicts but how they describe that physiological response is not arguable. For longterm addicts it really is a living hell but in retrospect those of us who have experienced are lucky to have done so, given the other side of the coin.

Spaaz: "One has to "go out" to be considered as an "overdose.": No, not at all. As I said, it is like any other poisining, your system purges. I will offer a subjective experience:

When I first moved to the US I was living in Tampa, Florida and at that time there was virtually no opiates/opioids whatsoever on the street (that only came along after 1994 when the Witness Protection Program began dumping all their Puerto Rican District clients in the Orlando area, and they flooded Central and Southern Florida with Colombian heroin).

So...to get my supply I would fly back and forth to NYC. Like many Middle Eastern Peoples, I have extensive 450 Metabolism, meaning I naturally require much more than a so called "normal" person to even feel opiates/opioids, let alone get a nice "nod" from it.

The result was, when I was younger and less educated about the dangers, etc., that I would break open 4 glassines (in other words 400 mgs. of "street" heroin) whenever I "copped" (bought), whereas most people without a steady addiction start with 50 mgs. (half of one glassine).

I bought a brand I had never done on one trip, and thank G-D I did not break open 4, I merely sufficed with one because of a heavily police presence, taking the rest with me to my hotel. I insufflated ("sniffed") half, and then the whole bag and proceeded to board a subway. Before I fit the next station I had the worst naseau of my life, as well as a massive "nod."

Most people vomit when they have no tolerance but it is not an unpleasant experience. In my case this has never happened, not even my first time and in this case it was the worst I have ever felt. By the time I got to my hotel room -15 minutes-I just made it to the toilet where I sat with my face for literally 2 and a half days of almost straight vomiting and dry heaves after everything had come up.

I did not become unconscious at all.

I had a second experience like that as well not long after.

MarlboroGirl: "So, people who think they are ODing cannot be ODing?": Not true at all. I explained it again in my last post but just a reminder, never be complacent. Also, alot of times a person can prgressively get worse. Most people think the "needle never leaves the arm" in all cases and that just is not true. As well, a person can be revived, seem completely lucid and then nod off again and never wake.

I have to say it again (to others), those thinking "it is the way to go" have never really OD'd. It is possible to get something so pure and massive as to just instantly lose consciousness but then it would be the same if you putt a 38 in your mouth or stepped in front of a train. HOWEVER, if you do not have a massive or pure enough dosage the feeling is excruciating.

A person is not going ot have a fantastic "nod," they will just immediately be rendered unconscious and as far as science knowns feel absolutely nothing. It is neither special or unique. It is certainly not something I would willingly do if I were ever in that frame of mind, although I have in the past joked (admittedly in very poor taste) in this forum that I would try to get hold of some Brompton's Cocktail (an actual Rx consisting of heroin, cocaine, and ether).

You are right that someone can go from being extremely high to close to being dead/or just dead. From what I've experienced and witnessed, the instant death from an IV overdose is similar to SIDS- my off the top of my head guess would be the massive jolt of too many opioids relaxes the heart muscles and you die quickly/pass out instantly then die very soon afterward. The other situation is you pass out from too much dope almost right after pulling out the needle, your respiritory muscles relax, you can't take in enough oxygen and asphyxiate on CO2.

The other fatal OD situation (the long one) would probably mean you did too much, but not enough to make you black out right after the shot goes in. You nod hard on and off for awhile, within 30-180 minutes, you nod out for the last time, your respiration slows due to relaxed muscles, you asphyxiate and die/can't get enough oxygen. Or, the same scenario, only you vomit while you're unconscious and choke on it.

It's not a glamorous or pleasant way to die, no matter what pop-culture relics say.

Scariest shit I've ever dealt with has been Ketamine addiction (yes, addiction - psychological, not so much physical)... I danced on the tight rope between buzz, moderate sedation, K-hole and beyond for weeks in a row. Lost my job, wound up in a mental hospital because I was intensely paranoid and delusional, almost lost my marriage. Memories of using are fuzzy and mostly involve stumbling into the bathroom to jab the needle into my deltoid again for another 50-100mg shot.

Waking up on the floor of the bathroom... finding broken needles on the floor of the bathroom and not knowing how they got there... Intense moments of clarity mixed with fear and overwhelming pleasure all at once,... I was a mess. Saddest part is if you handed me a syringe-full now, I'd jab it into my arm in a heartbeat.

"I remember making my shot, injecting, pulling the needle out and feeling the rush and burn come on, but it didnt stop it kept going and i said in my mind "shit, i did too much" next thing i know im waking up to cops and the ambo lights. it was an ugly scene.

The other ones were pretty much the same, except the time i tried to OD on purpose out of desparity but my tolerance was high enough that shooting all the dope i had left that day didnt do the job and i awoke a few hours later almost unable to move.

And no, it doesnt hurt. I mean yea sometimes the rush can actually be painful, you get that intense burning in your face and hands and body ect...but after that, its just nothing. blackness.

ditto

I did 1 1/2 bags even tho the guy told us not to do more than 1 at a time. Then I was cleaning out my rig and BAM! I sudden;ly wake up laying on a stretcher in a moving ambulance. was prolly conscious for 1-2 minitues before I fell out, didn't see it coming at all, just the best rush ever then blackness/nothingness then coming to in an ambulance with emts above me.

yeah rachimim In retrospect I am kind of glad the situation played out the way it did. I did have more H on me and I am 2 year probation, but I am clean and the longer I am the less I want to go back to that daily hell even though it wasn't very long. Problem is my brother just moved out to live with me and he has been on opiates for years.....he is buying H and getting high in my apartment and man is it hard.....

Wil: Well, I will not be a hyocrite. I do not buy into the whole 12 Step hoopla although am glad if it works for others but one thing they espouse is certinly true (at least one): Environment is everything. ALL addicts know about "triggers." A certain type of weather, a day of the week, a particular part of town and the urge to "get on" is almost overpowering.

If you are REALLY trying to get clean, your brother is not the best person for you right now. You need to be in place where you will not see a person going through the cycle.

"Environment" should not be confused with "Geography" as in "Geographical Cure" which of course does not exist. You can change your environment BUT you ALSO need to change your thinking as they say (I guess that would be a 2nd NA maxim to take to heart, "Stinkin' Thinkin' " hahaha). Get a support system, not neccessarily an ex-addict in my book, but someone you can unload to, as well as alot of other tools you can use but being with your brother will not leave you clean, that is for sure.

Jimborg: Disasscoatives like Ketamine can be terrible psychological addictions. In my day it was PCP and it wrecked alot of lives, just as any uncontrolled and uneducated use will.
