I once thought that
every scream echoes back
the ripples ride to the edge and return to the stone
that every action has an equal and opposite reaction
that it all just goes in circles
that every debt is paid
that what goes around comes around
that the universe strives on all levels to
acheive some equilibrium,
to maintain some form of balance,
and that indications otherwise were just illusions
caused by my impatience towards
nature's time-delay
but today I think I'm swallowing the fact that
scales don't exist in nature
whether you call it striving for balance or justice
it's just another flavor of the lie
that keeps the herd in line
that blinds their eyes in black and white
that draws the lines between wrong and right
in their confused, dependent minds
where they fear they're too weak to withstand
the pressure of freedom and independence
and the responsibility it brings
too damn scared to dare to be naked
that makes them identify with the role of the selfless
to serve the selfishness they hide
from everyone, and most of all
themselves.
