Yay, the 3 wise men have finally spoken!! Even as a National (coalition) voter, I am happy that there is finally an actual result and hope that some positive stuff comes out of it. Unfortuneatly I don't think alot will change at all, except a little with the way the house of reps runs (independant speaker, time limits, etc.) But there are a couple of unfortunate things from this outcome. I beleive mostly older people who lean towards Labor will be dissapointed that the "Labor brand" is no longer the traditional Labor party anymore, and that really whichever party was to win by the margin of just 2 seats will not have the power to deliver a heap of policies which otherwise would have been acheivable. I am actually quite happy with this outcome and it will be a massive challenge for Gillard and the Labor party to "get their shit together". It will be very interesting and exciting to watch how a minority government who 1.. Lost a huge amount of seats across the country compared to the coalition's 2 lost. 2.. Kevin Rudd working with Julia being on the front bench, hahaha (I mean c'mon, anyone who thinks that this would work easily has rocks in their head). 3.. Where are people like Bill Shorten who took Kevin Rudd down going to work? 4.. Dealing with the Greens, an ex Green, independants (with Tony Winsor's seat having a long history of being a conservative one). The possibility of a "stable government" out of all this would be extremely amazing to see happen.
Its quite stupid really for Tony Winsor's decision to be based on which party he thinks would be likely to win the next election, plus it was absolutely obvious for 2 weeks that him and Oakeshott were going to side with Labor, and then on what is supposed to be a very serious announcement, Oakeshott still joked around and took 16 minutes (from a guy who wants talk time limits) to actually officially announce his decision. Rob was also offered a possition in the ministry at the start which was what made his mind up. Due to them couple of points about Winsor and Oakeshott, there is no doubt that Bob Katter is the only independant that is actually a true independant who decided to not follow the other 2 for his own personal gain, but for the people living in rural areas. With Winsor and especially Oakeshott, this has nothing at all to do with what they say "stable government" or for "the people of Australia". It is for their own personal power/gain.
I know this all does sound biased, and I am, but at the same time like probably alot of other people, since this is all different, whichever party, it will be interesting.
