(National) Big Day Out 2011

I've been to three or four Sydney BDOs NickyJ and I agree with your assessment completely. Hence why I'm not going this year.

^At the GC BDO you could add swallowing your body weight in dust to the list of gripes. Also, there is a MASSIVE lack of shade and most everyone gets their lobster on before days' end.

i was at the gold coast one when RATM played... i dont really remember much of it because i was in a state where i was in a toilet thinking i was in a space ship and it was taking off...

i do remember the dust...

the sydney one still does have the lines, but nothing compared to the other festivals i have been too like future and parklife and shit.

Another problem with the sydney one is the lack of grass...

Splendour is a completely different atmosphere... i didnt go this year, but i would assume that would of changed a lot by taking it away from Byron...

Wow, Chopsy! You're clearly a festival connoisseur but I disagree. I've only ever been to two BDOs and swore I'd never do another cos it's over populated, the lines are terrible and crowd is generally a bunch of fuckwits. I do have a tendency to compare every festival to Splendour tho which is probably not fair. Have you been to any BDOs outside of Sydney? I'm wondering if the city has anything to do with it?

Definitely agree that Soundwave is poorly organised tho.

Been going to the BDO since 1998. Its what you make of the day.

They don't call the Sydney BDO the big wait for nothing. Wait to get in, wait to get id wrist banded, wait for beer, wait for the toilets, wait for your fave bands and wait for the train home. But to be fair, I've been to BDO in Auckland, Adelaide and Melbourne. Im sorry Melbourne but yours is the worst I've been to so far on the tour. Adelaides is pretty good but their toilet lines for guys and girls were actually worse than Sydney's and slower moving. Been to Soundwave, RSF, Field Day, Parklife, Defqon etc etc. Soundwave would of been good (I only stuck it out all day just so I could see Faith no more) if it wasn't so friggen hot!

I usually only go to the BDO to see bands. RATM a couple of years ago took down Homebush. Im looking forward to seeing Tool next year.

And this would apply on all things here?% And other threads ?:\

I'm pretty sure we can still talk about drugs in Aus Social, just nothing incriminating like "Man, I sure have a big bag of drugs here", and "hey when I'm at the blah festival I will totally be breaking the law so look for me!" unless things have changed significantly in the past few years.

Been to a few BDO's now, and am a HUGE Tool fan, so when I heard they were coming back I was rapt!! (Don't mind Rammstein, and as I have never seen them live before I think that will be an experiance and a half!!
All in all I'm rather excited :-) Can't wait for the next lineups to be announced!!

The BDO festival looks shithouse!

I mean from Short Stack to ughhh....:|

Wouldn't you all agree?

In before close :P

P.S. you suck... TOOL AND RAMMSTEIN are playing!!!!!

Bitter because you couldn't get tickets perhaps?

I have tool tickets, which is a hell of a lot better than bdo! As for rammstein, I personally dont dig neo-nazi-industrialist-homosexuals, but if that's what you're into :p each to their own

Dude, you read our guidelines yet? There already is a BDO thread that I'll move this to...

^ lol at Klues picture. Anyway, looks like ill be heading to BDO..Keenasfuck to see Rammstein.

I am actually going to the BDO. Second Sydney show, tickets were 2 for the price of 1 so my friend roped me in to going with her. I'm kinda looking forward to it! Previously I had boycotted BDO because of the exorbatent drinks prices and the cunts everywhere, so many cunts. But with the cheap ticket I'm not too stressed about having to have an amazingly awesome time or even staying the whole day if I'm not feeling it. I'll just take it as it comes :)

^ yeh I should have added I'm going as a crowd care volunteer (along with several other local bluelighters, you guys rock!!! <3). I might not have paid for tickets otherwise. As you mentioned n3o the typical crowd at BDO isn't overly friendly and the diverse range of acts & hence patrons doesn't really help. Not really much PLUR going around you could say.

I would have considered going to the Tool sideshow if it wasn't so expensive. I've blown way too much money on concert tickets recently :o
