Ive never had a credit card of any kind :/ Sure dr you can bill me later and ill be getting my script before hand spectacular.
 
I'm with PPF on using a credit card, it's easy and online BoA will give you disposable numbers so you don't get defrauded. Plus 1% back. Does often encourage me to spend more money though. I'm a little bit of a money hoarder, so if I have cash I just don't want to break the big bills.

I'm totally against actual credit though. I never get drugs fronted to me, and I'm not super comfortable with a monthly plan to pay for any kind of consumer good. I'm going to have to get over it soon though, I'm not going to have all the cash to buy my bike (hopefully in the next month).
 
Using anything other then cash lets big brother monitor what your spending your money on.
Does anyone have a dope dealer with one of those card swipers for there phone? One dealer I had would take a personal check from me. He was more of a friend though then dealer.

Ya reward cards are worth it. My boss has a Harley card and he's put all kinds of shit on his bike essentially for free. Even chrome front forks. If you're into something like that or could use the air miles it can be better to get those cards instead of the cash back ones. Some people just shouldn't use credit cards though.

Edit- I was at Target with my current dealer and he was looking into those things welderman. It took a percentage of each transaction though. I would've never used the thing anyways

But yes, when used responsibly credit cards can be a sweet thing. A lot of people lack the ability to manage a dollar though. I have a friend who had like $40,000 in credit card debt, I couldn't believe it. Her and her husband just aren't fazed by it where as I would probably give myself a stroke.



On another note, what kind of bike are you getting?

I don't give big brother anything fun to monitor. Who the hell would put drugs on a credit card? Anyone who does that needs a kick in the shins and quite honestly, they deserve deserve get caught. That's just silly.

My bad P. I feel you on the debt thing, some people consider debt part of life. I was raised the opposite way though, that nothing is worth being in debt for. I don't have a dime, not even student loans for my BA.

Not sure yet on the bike, it's my first so I don't really know what to get actually. I need to take the class to learn how to ride first, and I'm hoping that'll help me figure out what I want. I'm thinking maybe a Ninja 300. But one of the main uses will be a ~60-mile roundtrip daily commute on big highways, so I'm considering something a bit bigger too, maybe a CBR500f. Unless you've got a suggestion...
 
Oh nice. So you're into sport bikes, with the commute that you described a sport bike wouldn't necessarily be a bad choice. I think you would outgrow a ninja 300 rather quickly. You would probably get more longevity with the cbr-500. If you are truly just start in out then it might not be a bad idea to look into an older bike that you wouldn't cry if it got dropped. My very first bike, 13 years ago (eeeek!) was a 1981 Honda CM 400. She wasn't pretty but she ran great and was very reliable.

My personal preference are cruisers. I have a 2001 Suzuki Volusia. I'm in the process of getting her back on the road because I popped a back tire on a highway in TN last summer on a ride to Nashville. Honestly, I was more concerned about the scratches to my bike than any of my own injuries. She is my baby after all. I was pretty lucky, no mechanical damage to the bike but some scuffed and abrasions (I also didn't have engine guards which i am even luckier that there wasn't more damage). So, until I get her painted she won't be as pretty as she was but she runs.

I highly recommend a class. You learn so much. I took a class to get my license and I recommend it to all new riders. It's especially good if you haven't developed any bad habits already, you start fresh.

Yeah I'm a cruiser guy myself. Not into the rice rockets or any sport bike really, though they are fun.

I had an 85' Harley Sportser for a while in the city. Ended up crashing it taking a header over a cab door. That was the end of that bike. Ha.
 
I think one day I'll probably get a cruiser. I have always liked the Harley fatboy but who knows what I'll get if I ever do. Crouch rockets can be beautiful, beastly machines but, I'd want something comfortable too.

I do like this as far as crotch rockets though

PFF, you're probably right about the 300, I was thinking the same thing. Cruisers are alright but I don't really see myself taking many long trips on this bike, so it's going to be mostly on socal roads. Which is bigass highways or open roads. I'm also not that heavy, and I've been sick, so this bike is kind of a pick-me-up, but that also means it has to be reasonable, as something too big would just be comically large for me right now. Plus I expect a sport bike, even in a crouched position, will be more my riding style. I do like some of the more upright seated bikes though. I really have no idea until I learn to ride though, I just really like the idea of riding of bike in the HOV lane instead of sitting in traffic.

I agree on a used bike, but I could get financing on one from a dealership. There's a triumph/ducati/huyasong(sp?) dealer near me that has some used bikes, that's where I saw the 300. I just don't know enough to go on craigslist and find myself one.

I wouldn't because of the paranoia.

As far as motorcycles go I would buy an enduro. That way I could ride in the dirt or cruse dirt roads to avoid traffic. And if I wanted I could go down the freeway.
 
I sold my 1st bike when i decided to move to a place like your describing Monk. Went to houston for school with a gsx-r 600 and saw a dude getting scraped off the pavement and helicopters landing on the highway from him getting swiped by a 18 wheeler. Sold my bike before i moved down there. But the HOV lane thing is nice as fuck especially for socal traffic.

God being a homeowner is my lifelong dream. When i was 22 i was just scraping myself off the streets and into some dumpy apartment. Im drowned i student loan debt, over 25k that i never foresee paying off unless i die and for some reason my s.o. doesnt want to iwn a house so i think thats going to be a major dealbreaker for us in the future altho we been together for 2 1/2 years. He owns his own engine head repair shop but only wants to rent i dont understand him and english not being his first language sometimes its hard for us to communicate about real issues.

Id take a home and great job over being carefree backpacker. Im done living a carefree, free spirit life. Drugs really wore me down and made me want to be a homebody and just have a place to belong/be.

I hope I'm like you one day. Granted, I've never really 'lived off the streets' ... that lifestyle isn't appealing to me whatsoever.
But I certainly don't care about drug use, and hitting 'rock bottom' I've been through alot of legal troubles, but I've never been on my ass in the streets.
If I ever got to that point, I'd like to think I'd change for the better. Most of my time spent being high is on the computer, watching tv, or doing some hobby of mine.
Without that, I'd be bored as fuck. What do homeless people do for fun? lol.. I hate people, so communicating with other homeless people would just annoy me to no ends.

Btw - Rent sucks. Honestly, it's just throwing money away. Should save up & buy a house.. atleast you'll have a permanent residence. I'm thinking your s.o. is scared of commitment.

Don't underestimate yourself. You can balance a lot more than you think you can, it jusr depends on how well the bike is balanced itself. My dad has a 1600 Yamaha Roadstar thar I ride sometimes. I always used to be afraid of riding a big bike but really, it's not a concern necessarily. My problem is that I'm short (I'm 5'4) and motorcycles are built for people who are about 5'410. I can't touch the ground on most sport bikes. Even my Volusia was lowered 2" (my mustang seat lifted me too high)

My suggestion would to be to sit on as many bikes as possible and get a feel for what's comfortable.

I agree, private sale is where it's at. You'll get a way better price.

Jb: that Ducati is beautiful. Before I started dating my fiance I went on a couple of dates with this guy who had a Suzuki hyabusa. His bike was somehow street legal but he also raced it and had some crazy $30,000 engine in it. He offered to let me take it for a ride but I was too scared lol He even said "beyond two o'clock on the throttle you better hold on cause you're going for a ride" lol
