Could you please mention about your experiences with Modafinil in combination with Nardil ? Have you ever tried pregabaline with Nardil ? Thanks.
Unfortunately I can't comment on pregbalin and nardil--it's not an uncommon combination (once you're within the realm of people prescribed nardil of course--nardil itself is a rare script to get) though.
Anyways, on to the modafinil:
My background: Severe MDD, Moderate (formerly severe) social anxiety--I have therapy, at this point I'd only been prescribed xanax before and I used (not with any regularity, except the piracetam and modafinil) piracetam, modafinil, d-amphetamine, phenibut and the occasional benzo or opioid to "treat" my symptoms (ehh, I wouldn't get high off anything, I'd use all of them, essentially for my social anxiety--since my depression is the result of my failure of a social life from the social anxiety which itself stems from childhood abuse). Nardil was the first anti-depressant I was prescribed. My p-doc offered me MAOI's and told me I could pick, went with Nardil for the social anxiety.
It worked wonderful, but it did make me tired during the day (though I didn't have insomnia like some people did). I started with 15mg/day for 2 days, bumped up to 30mg/day for a week and a half, and then 45mg/day for two days. I then dropped down to 15mg for 2 days and withdrew from it (It made me worse at mathematics--I found it more difficult to think linearly, though in general I do find myself better at math when I'm depressed. Math is also all I really have in life, so I couldn't drop it.). So I was on it for slightly less than 3 weeks total, not enough for it's "anti-depressant" effects to kick in, supposedly, but the anxiolytic ones were great.
So I didn't like the daytime drowsiness, it made work even more difficult to do. I read online about combining modafinil with it, and it seems safe given that modafinil is only a really mild dopamine reuptake inhibitor with negligible effects (if any) on the serotonin and norepinephrine pathways. I didn't consult my p-doc about it. I started taking 100mg modafinil a day with it. It kept me completely awake, so no drowsiness, and I didn't have any trouble sleeping later in the evening. I found it boosted my mood even more, and it made me very social. I wasn't anxious at all, great at small talk, and I met a lot of new people and spent a lot of time socializing and enjoying it (the two have always been mutually exclusive for me). I didn't notice any side effects on it, I never had any from the modafinil. I had pretty bad constipation from the nardil, which caffeine helped with as well as the occasional docusate sodium(sp?). It's risky to take a lot of laxatives on nardil since they are meant to stimulate peristalsis in the intestines. So I went with ducosate sodium because other people on Nardil seemed to have positive experiences with it--it's a stool softener, it allows additional water to be absorbed into stool. Supposedly bad to use regularly though because your digestive system with adapt to it (from the papers I've read, though some p-docs will let their patients use them very regularly anyways), so I used it once a week.
I'm not sure if all this was helpful or not, but overall, I'd give modafinil a 10/10, kept me awake with no negative side effects (I had been taking it for 100mg 5-7 days of the week for the past 2 months, for a month prior I took 50mg and I've noticed a tolerance increase, but it builds fairly slowly). Start with 50mg though if you've never had it. And if you're in the U.S. it's ridiculously expensive here if you go through the traditional script->pharmacy, but it's only schedule IV and cheap in many other areas of the world (sorry if this is too suggestive?)
